And many can point at Kobe's bloated, back loaded contract and laugh ... but the reality is Kobe is not tradeable, for the Lakers bottom line. Do i think a team would pull a wiz and trade for him to sell seats? Yes, AI, and plenty of others were traded for marketing rather than having their performance match their salary. Buss cant trade Kobe because of what he charges for seats and suites at Staples. Bynum may be more efficient but he doesnt make the Lakers "must see TV". To be honest unless Kobe is hot and the bigs are engaged (and sometiimes even if they are) the Lakers are kind of boring to watch as constructed. They are a strong playoff team but they play a ugly style of ball and are so limited athletically.

We shall see. But without sweeping changes I dont care how "long" we are. We are just not good enough to truly contend.

I acknowledge the economic point, but I'm still going to sit here, pointing and laughing... Gotta take your fun where you find it, right...

With the triangle I agree. On defense which I appreciate we are solid when engaged. But on offense it's very predictable.

Option 1: Kobe Iso up mid-post
Option 2: Kobe Iso top left or right wing
Option 3: Bynum on the left block backing his man down for 3+ dribbles

If any of the those first 3 lead to a double (well for Kobe sometimes triple) team a kick out for a brick 3 by Blake, Barnes, Artest, and Sessions etc.

Option 4: Kobe/Pau pnr (my favorite play but hard to run because with Bynum on the floor and ty shooters the spacing is crappy.
Option 5: the Kobe pass to the high post to Pau with a quick pass to Bynum
another play I love but again it works better with shooters.
Otion 6: Artest backing a smaller down with is slow no lift post moves (i love these plays when it makes sense, such as a team putting their wekest defender on Ron.) He can be effective at times but this make our spacing even worse than any of the other options.

That is our offense. Sure we run a clever inbounds play every once in a while, or quick hitter or counter. But My standards for high quality ball are pretty high. I was raised on Showtime and since then only a few of the Laker teams we have had have been both exciting and also a championship squad. Even Our 2002 le team was not very exciting at all to be honest, to much bickering and media feuds and very choppy play on the court.

LOL @ The NY Daily News having the inside scoop on the Lakers...
This. And some of you are running with this as if it's highly credible.

I have no doubt the Lakers want to move Pau, but unless you hear what they are willing to move him for - from a credible LA beat writer like Kevin Ding (OC Register) or Mike Bresnahan (LA Times) - take it with a grain of salt tbh. How soon we forget that without Pau, Duncan is looking down on Kobe 4>3. The Lakers aren't gonna just give him away.

They should be trying to get rid of the coach instead. Pau > MB.

Kobe won't be traded because he can't be traded...he has a no trade clause...and let's not kid ourselves here...It's not Kobe's fault he's option 1, 2, and 3...if them s - PAUssy and Drew would show up and be men we wouldn't have the issues we had...Kobe's still asked to play point, wing, and score, defend the best opposition player wether PG or SG. Case in point Kobe defending Ty Lawson and Westbrook because the LA PG couldn't...then Kobe expected to score because Pau refused to get post position or even score the 18ft jumper. Bynum getting stripped every other possession and getting out played by rookies...and to top it all off Kobe they throw body after body at Kobe...Thabo, Harding, Durant, double teams and them clowns Pau and Drew just standing around looking...you s crazy as for trying to lay blame on Kobe...that real and has been for a long as time...let's face it that gave Durant the scoring le..after 16 yrs in he can still lead the league in scoring and lead his ty as teammates who show no heart...

You s buying into the media hype on Kobe's demise once again, which is greatly exxaggerated.....so what they're paying that 30 mill...they offered and he accepted...He deserves it...it's not like he's sitting on his ass like Timmy is...

    Mine or Kool's?
Why dont you offer a more accurate one?

And Kool I wasnt trying to bash Kobe. Just being honest. I love Kobe's exquisite foot-work and the effort he gives on offense 100% of the time and defense about 40% of the time. I dont think he is is done, and I dont expect or want him to be traded. I do think as he ages he should try and improve his shot selection. I do enjoy the occasional forced fade away 20 footer over 2 guys ...but he sometimes makes the game harder than it needs to be. The Buss family, Nike etc. have made way more off Kobe then he has been paid. Him being overpaid is what it is.

Nothing bloated about Kobe's contract in fact....let's listen to Dr Buss the father himself..It doesn't get any realer than this

"Lakers owner Jerry Buss has reportedly told people privately that Bryant may be worth $70 million a year to his franchise. Bryant’s contract is worth $25 million this season, $28 million next season and over $30 million in 2013-14.

$70 mil / yr when the Spurs owner is only worth about 85 mil in totality let's get real man...

That used to be true, but now fans are getting shafted because Kobe of late isn't the Kobe they came to see. There's likely a move on the horizon involving hurting Kobe's feelings to get a new face in LA. Any LA superstar will sell tickets.

Kobe will threaten to quit, and Buss will hand him a box of sandwiches and a road map.

Besides the lack of lift on his forays to the hoop, and him taking off some plays on defense what exactly are fans not getting? Sure he hasnt won a ring in 2 years, but the Lakers win a high % of their home games. Kobe is averaging just under 30 points. sure, it takes him more shots to do so, but I dont see how a fan is not STILL getting their money's worth. In fact, since Kobe is closer to the end his games are MORe valuable, because once he is retired Lakers will struggle to find a star on THAT level.
