Second-year guard Marquis Daniels, penciled in as the Mavericks' starting shooting guard, is not yet scrimmaging in training camp because of a serious ankle sprain suffered over the summer. "I did all the drills [Tuesday], but it swelled up before the second practice," Daniels told the Dallas Morning News. "We're just being careful about it right now."

We're not going to let this temper our enthusiasm for Daniels at this point, but we'll keep an eye on it for you. Daniels averaged 20 points, over six rebounds, more than five assists, and 2.3 steals in eight April games last year and carried that kind of multi-category production into the playoffs.
