There's plenty of reasons to try your first cig when you're a kid that won't even register the health warning in the brain.

    Peer pressure
What if some fine chick is smoking you want an easy ice breaker
Too ed up to even remember who what why you smoked (the 4cc way)
    Boredom
The high school never ending itch for a buzz of any kind

rational thought has no place in this. smokers know its bad, know it costs a lot, and do it anyway. Why? because it feels good.
Rational thought is something anyone who starts smoking in the first place lacks

The large amount of people in this country who still smoke demonstrates how dumb the country is.

I also don't know how people I know in college who smoke a bunch ever have any money. That's the big thing other than health that would deter me is how expensive they are.

It doesn't take some deep thought about the future to know that smoking that gross-ass is not a good idea, tbh.....

Yeah and it's easy to see the physical results from smoking as well. People's faces will age very fast and become full of wrinkles+damaged looking hair and a low deep voice

The first part of your post is the exact point that I was trying to make. Rational thought has no place in addiction because it is not born of rational thought.

trying to blame it on "addiction"

Addiction can't be blamed for why you smoked cigs in the first place and got addicted

thats like 10 X funnier because of an experience in the one and only general elective i actually took at the university. there was this chick in there who was obviously a sorros ute and she'd try so hard in the dumbest class "intro to criminal justice" and was always ing at the professor and complaining after a test was handed back in that deep ass " and tobacco voice" i crofl'ed so hard i almost had to walk out of class once it dawned on me that this was exactly waht you were talking about when you first told me about sorros utes.

The original post that I was responding to was trying to use rational thought as a way to talk a smoker out of it. I said rational thought has no place in a discussion about addiction (at least in a conversation with an addict).

There are many reasons why someone begins an addiction, rational thought isn't generally one of them.

I absolutely won't argue that one. Starting smoking was a pretty dumb move on my part. I own that. Glad I am done.

the OP addressed smokers on this site because i knew some people were quitting and i was curious to see how they handled things. of course people would use it as a soap box and cast the first stone to make them feel better about their fat, unhealthy selves.

anyway, i smoked in college because i worked 20+ hours a week while taking 16 hours of coursework. thats alot of 10 minute breaks, and i was making good money. seeing that cigs in australia are 20 bucks a pack and im getting to the age where cigs actually start ing my lungs, its a no brainer to quit. im quitting cold turkey, and yeah its tough.

I used to smoke, but never terribly heavily (except on mushrooms and I would smoke a whole pack). They started to give me headaches, every time I had one. That coupled with the rising cost of cigarettes from 2000 on made it easy for me to quit. I started cause in high school I could drink 3 Beast lights and smoke two cigarettes and get a wicked buzz.

I had a friend who used to have to smoke if we were doing mushrooms or acid. I hated smoking so it really ed up my to have to smell the constant smoke. I felt like I could feel it burning my nose and body.

Well, good luck. I gave my address to the OP and if you need any more detail to it, please let me know. It does get easier, I still have very VERRRRRRY small urges and they are few and far between (most notably, recently I was tubing and started catching a buzz and wondered how drunk I had to be before it would be ok to bum a smoke - LOL, I didn't even feel the need to smoke one, but it was more an intellectual urge), but for the most part, I don't think about it anymore.

    Well then props

Everyone I know who did the "I can smoke in college while I'm young and then quit before it starts ing my lungs up" graduates and never quits. If you actually quit once you're done with school, then it's not a big deal, I just don't know very many people who do quit successfully.

thanks for the input. i feel much better about it now. pretty much the only time i smoke now is for a peace offering...like if someone i meet gives me a cig. that's about it.

at first the moment id stress out id buy a pack immediately without thinking about it. after about 3 months i stopped have that reaction when happens, which is nice.
