A combo of those 3 factors, his skills and body have eroded as he aged, but not his ego & playing philosophy.
Is he
A) A smart basketball player who knows his team can't win without him taking control of the game
B) A glorified Michael Finley who keeps getting the benefit of the officiating
C) A selfish baller who won't ever shy away from the spotlight even during times when he sucks
A combo of those 3 factors, his skills and body have eroded as he aged, but not his ego & playing philosophy.
He's still record chasing. He knows this team ain't doing , so he might as well chuck and get closer to Jordan on the all-time scoring list.
I would also be willing to bet Kirby doesn't think too much of monkey boy's game. Say what you want about Kirb, but the man is tireless when it comes to working on basketball fundamentals, so I'd venture to say he doesn't trust giving Dwight the basketball unless it's a for sure dunk/layup. Like I said before, I'm sure Howard's chimpball offends Kobe's sensibilities.
or D) all of the above
kobe eats first
All of the above. Veru nice triple double by Kobe tonight. What a player.
completely agree with this. As much as I hate Kobe/Lakers, I will admit Kobe has one of the craziest work ethics and compe iveness of any athlete I've seen. Dwight's awful free throw shooting and awful post game for someone who should be a transcendent talent must frustrate the out of him. No one talks about it, but Dwight Howard if actually a major disappointment, offensively at least. Defensively, he's an elite, other worldly talent for sure. But my god if he hasn't figured out how to be a consistent offensive threat by this point...
Some people say Kobe is the best at making tough shots.
I always say Kobe is the best at TAKING tough shots
but he doesn't have to take tough shots, he does it because he's too selfish
I absolutely agree. thats sort of what i was going for with that
dude tried to play more like a team player earlier this season but it didn't work too good for them imho.
If he had decent players around him he wouldn't shoot so much.
he wanna win n got trust issues. gasol n Dwight been ina slump, gasol in particular. he got winner mentality but it not the magic Johnson winner mentality, it the Jordan one. problem is he not able ta take over at any given time so he cost games n make teammates lose confidence.
if he went n involve he team, even when they suck, they gon get betta n payoff will happen come post-season. it not Kobe tho so we get what we get
The apple doesn't fall far away from the tree. Jellybean Joe Bryant wanted the ball even more than Kobe when he was playing with the Sixers. The problem was that the Sixers also had players named Julius Erving, George McGinnis, Lloyd Free, and Doug Collins. These 4 players were higher up on the food chain than Joe was so he went to Clipperland and decided that the NBA wouldn't let him be a star...so he bailed for Italy.
Joe is living through his son. I kinda think that he went Marv Marinovich with Kobe but unlike Marv's son Todd( who went out in a blaze of drugs and out of the NFL), Kobe could handle the Robo-SG stuff Jellybean gave him.
I may not like that he won what he won while being a LAL'er, 2nd fiddle first, and then leader once Shaq got booted, but I do respect his game and while he does have a dizzying array of skills, being a TEAM 1st guy foremost, is not one of them.
