Can someone pls explain why are the spurs in 5th place? I will say its a mistake but its been like that for a couple of days.

I know division champs come before better record, and thats why some teams are ahead, but I don't see how they can fall that far?

Because the Clippers and Warriors are tied for first. That pushes the Spurs back to fifth. The farthest they would drop is 4 if the Spurs lost the divison.

Check on NBA.com for the correct conference standings:

They have the standings for the NBA listed "NFL Style". It has the division leaders and all that. The NBA has gone with the straight-up best record leads for a few years now

Clippers and Warriors aren't really tied for first. They have the same record, but that's when they go to tie-breakers. Clips lost to GS in the only game they've played so far, so the Warriors are division leaders at the moment. Spurs should be the 2 seed behind the Grizz.

Hollinger had the Spurs ranked 6th in his power rankings.

The way I am using it is to mean one of the columns you can use to sort ranking, as they compete for importance. Winning percentage is the NBA way of doing it, and how it should be done, but different people figure it differently. Hollinger is really big on point differential yet coaches like Pop don't run the score up so it's not a true indicator but it is an indicator.

    Its ESPN. They suck.

    http://www.nba.com/standings/team_re...w_Std_Cnf.html

"Teams 1 to 4 in each conference are the three division winners and the team with the next best regular-season record, with the seeding of these four teams determined by regular-season record. The playoffs seedings of Teams 5 to 8 are based upon regular-season record."

Spurs are currently the second seed.

Yeah, our strength of schedule hasn't been too great, and our margin of victory has been terrible until the last couple games as well. Those are the main stats that are compiled in Hollinger's power rankings. And wins and losses of course.

We should be 5th after the game tonight, but we're probably going to lose to Miami tomorrow and drop back to where we just were.

Only because the big 3 are out

Miami has been getting by on great offense, so-so defense and great crunch time execution. Sound familiar?

Yeah I know man, I predicted Pop would rest out guys for that game. It isn't like my thoughts about how ty the scheduling for that game is aren't shared by Popovich. I wouldn't be surprised if he thought the exact same thing.

If we weren't playing Miami with 4 days of rest/preparation, and instead a Miami team who also was coming off 3 games in 4 nights like we were. . .or a crappy team, he probably wouldn't have rested the starters. Just guessing of course, but it makes sense to me why he rested guys tonight.
