Hack-a-Ho (thanks timvp) only works because Howard doesn't get enough touches during the game to make having him on the floor a plus. Shaq was a ty FT shooter, but he'd destroy you before that time came around most often.

This might be the key reason Gasol stays a Laker (and yeah, I think they want to trade him badly. Tonight's DNP was more about seeing how the Lakers perform without him than about his knee problems). The Lakers are going to need to a closing big man who isn't painfully one dimensional and can shoot freethrows. If Gasol goes, the Lakers options are Dwight/Jamison or Hill/Jamison. There's a reason Jackson preferred to sit Bynum late in the 4th and close with Gasol at center.

Rofl. Do those bean3r idiots understand who their coach is and what kind of system he runs? Only points in the paint the Lakers are liable to get is via Howard putbacks off missed 3's. Sure, when the Messiah Steve Nash returns, they'll add some more paint scoring with pick-n-rolls between Nash and Dwight (despite Nash saying it tires him out to run it), but ultimately, the Lakers are a jumpshooting team now since they don't have the horses to fastbreak for easy transition buckets like D'Antoni's former teams.

Shaq was an awful FT shooter but mostly with shooting foul FT . Hack a Shaq wasn't so effective at all because his FT% was higher in a row, It's not the same to shoot 4 FTs in 6 minutes than 8 FTs in a row.

Howard must be the only clown who can't improve his % with so many shots from the line in a row.

Strategy could work with Shaq sometimes. It works every game with Howard.
