Derrin is so overrated.
He could, but will he want less money and be relagated to assisting coaching? That's a huge downgrade. I'm not sure anyone would settle for less in this league unless you really cared about winning but since he'd be assistant coach I dont think he would get credit either way.
Thank god the Mavs didn't spend 80 mil on this guy.
Baron Davis 2.0, tbh....
Not people but mostly Kobe and Suns fans. I think Lebron should've won the MVP considering the talent he had in 2007.
Given how Deron and Dwight have combined to kill 4 coaches, I'm sure Carlisle is secretly glad that Cuban's plan to get those two clowns backfired.
The Cavs barely reached 50 wins playing in a Eastern conference. Dirk won 67 with a coach, a potsmoker and JET in the West. Big difference.
Like this is going to change anything for the Nets.
People overlook Dirk because they lost to a 8 seed. Moreover Dirk was so effortless that season and made it look easy. He barely played 35 min a game because the Mavs were blowing out teams all season.
Of course, they happened to run into a team which was coached by the same guy who built Dirk's team. If Avery doesn't try to match Nelson's small ball the Mavs probably win it all.
They can AJ because the coach killer can't hit his shots. lowest fg percent in his career. Injured players Superstar misses shots = team loses. Yeah get rid of the coach. Makes perfect sense.
Avery Johnson exhibited below average coaching skills during the 2006 NBA Finals run. The Dallas Mavericks basketball franchise owned by Mark Cuban will not tolerate anything less than greatness.
I find it funny people call Deron a coach killer, at least till all the facts come out for this he isn't. Deron himself has admitted he has played like . King and Avery both said don't blame Deron, this firing I think was more of all the team, not just one player. Of course I could be wrong, we all know players, coaches, and GM's in the NBA are great liers
Dirk easily deserved regular season MVP that season. No debate.
And Avery Johnson is a coach. There's a reason the Hornets didn't hire his ass two seasons ago when he publicly pleaded for the job since he was a local guy.
Coaches need poise in championship games and Avery has none of that tbh. Phil, Pop and Carlisle have that. The reason Dallas won back in 2011 was largely due to Carlisle outcoaching Phili . The zone killed Miami and Phili had no clue how to counter it.
Well, since Sloan wasn't fired I'd say one.
Millionaires don't go for the drill sergeant act. Who wants to get yelled at by some black cajun dude?
"TRANSISHUN DEEEFENSE"
I would have liked to have seen Avery standing in the coach's box with a big bowl of gumbo in his hands at all times.
Dirk once said during an interview that Avery "ran a little dictatorship" while he was in Dallas. Then he said, "I think this league is still a league of players, not a coaches league."
Avery would be a very good college coach. But I don't think his temperament is suited for the League.
Agreed. Avery is a very good coach in some ways, but he's a short-term fix kind of guy. In Dallas he got a team that traditionally was all offense and no D to buy into the concept of giving a crap about defense. They were a second-round exit with Nellie and a legit contender with Avery. They didn't all of a sudden become the 2008 Celtics on Defense but they became passable. It's what separated them from the D'Antoni Suns. Problem with Avery is that his personality and domineering ways just grate on guys sooner than later. A .500 record with that roster in Brooklyn is about right, so in my mind they weren't underachieving. But I'm sure they got rid of him because he lost the locker room.
I do think they got rid of him because he lost the locker room, I'm not saying it was totally on him though.
