So now he's going back to Oregon (supposedly.) How long can he troll the NFL before they stop calling him?

Yep, he is headed to the Eagles. I guess he changed his mind. Does this mean that Vick remains the starting QB for the Eagles??

Hearing he got wind of the likely sanctions coming Oregon's way and opted to pull a Petey Carroll.

Vick makes sense, as does trading Foles, letting Vick walk and drafting Gino Smith.

Glazer and Mort both reporting it. I think he's pulling a Pete Carroll and getting out of Eugene before the NCAA swings the hammer. Would have loved to see him in Cleveland but I'm happy with Chudzinsky as a consolation prize.

EDIT- You beat me to the Pete Carroll reference, JMark. Didn't see it when I posted.

    Crippling sanctions on the way
Most overrated program in recent memory
Routinely exposed by USC, Boise, Stanford, the SEC, and anyone else with a defense
Chipball only good for Nike marketing campaigns, not for winning on the big stage

I heard it from NCAA lines before NFL. Definitely hearing sanctions or anticipation of sanctions is a huge factor. He's not going to have the horses for his style with a USC style hammer. Not sure that happens, but it makes sense he heard rumbling of what and how long and opted to bolt while a premium destination like Philly was still available.

It isn't as if Oregon is a legacy program. He did well to have them competing at the level they were.

He's a good coach, innovative to a point, great X/O guy, but small and fast won't work vs. big and fast, so he'll need to adjust some, which I expect.

Yep, because you know Oregon and/or Phil Knight have the cash to pay him just as much if not more than what Philly would be willing to pay him.

anyone who thinks Chip Kelly is gonna run that offense in the NFL. He ran that offense because it's what worked best with the personnel he had and fared very well in a conference that lacked speed on defense. His offense also got better at passing every year as Mariota was one of the most efficient passers in college last year. As JoeTait said, it's not like Oregon is a legacy program.

Kelly strikes me as a coach who designs his system based off his personnel, which is how coaches should be. It'll be a huge improvement over Andy Reid who was basically the polar opposite trying to turn Mike Vick into a pocket passer and the Eagles into an elite passing team when their best player is Lesean McCoy.

I think he'll adapt to an extent, but I don't think he's going to keep Foles and adapt for a traditional dropback system. I doubt he goes full option, goes small across the line, and tries to find as many Sprohls as he can, but I can see him doing something very similar to San Francisco or Seattle. I can see Smith being an option, or maybe Colt McCoy for a year or two while they develop some ideal type.

I have absolutely no idea what he will do or if he'l be good at all, but i'm happy for the move, just for the sake of not seeing always the same head coaches rotate in the nfl.

If Vick is still the starter you'll see plenty of read option looks as well as the hunh. Doubt he'll run it all the time, but I definitely expect to see a few wrinkles from his college system.

That being said, Vick is a bum and Kelly, like so many others, will only be as successful as the performance at the QB position allows him to be.

Could be wrong, but I expect him to fail (considering the QB) and be back in CFB within 4 years

He'll have return stipulation of some of these sanctions likely following him.

Nobody has any proof he'll fail. His system has succeeded in variations in New England, Seattle, Washington. With the league now in a hurry up and option-read trend, now his the best time for him to succeed.

He's a great X/O guy, and has proven capable of winning with three types of QBs. If he's capable of adapting some, his scheme is made for a speed game.

Alot of these idiots (Clipper Nation) think he's a spread option coach when he's run multiple offenses during his coaching career. Like you said, he will run the offense best suited for his personnel.

I doubt Vick will be his long-term QB. He is definitely gonna have to find a new QB to be successful long-term.

did Kelly run a traditional offense at New Hampshire?

didn't seem to me that Kelly adapted to the spread option at Oregon because that's what players he had at Oregon, that was his system and he was deploying it and recruiting players to fit it.

You don't know that. What is known is that there seems to be better hires out there.

They fired an offensive guy and brought in an offensive guy.

Seems to me they need to really work on that bad defense.

at this epic fail of a post

    1. Boise State was Chip's FIRST ing game.
    2. 2-2 v Stanford averaging 40 PPG, 3-1 v USC averaging 50 PPG. somehow those programs expose him?
    3. Auburn/LSU were great teams, it happens. that LSU defense was amazing. Losing by a FG in the le game to Scam Newton doesn't "expose" a team.

Oregon was a top 3 program the past 4 years no matter how you spin it. Would've been a treat to watch Oregon/Alabama this year... I believe Kelley would've eventually won a national championship at Oregon, this year's team was probably the best of his 4.

Yes I do know that, if he tries what we saw at Oregon. Which is why he got hired....right?

Only chance he has in the NFL is to be somebody else.
