He's a step slower than everyone else. He can't block shots. He is big and can rebound. He seems to have bad hands and no touch. Some of this could be nerves. 1st game in the NBA. That would be intimidating, even if against the lowly Bobcats.
he's also gotta adjust to the nba. different types of players, different play style, different officiating than euroleague. remember it took splitter quite a while to become the defender he now is

The biggest difference between a big who gets passes (Splitter) and a big who doesn't is not just rolling, but maintaining a passing window to receive the ball. I saw a couple of times that Baynes had a nice roll but the passer just didn't have an angle to get him the ball.
Thats a valid point. But I think a lot of that will come with time. The dude has still only been in town for like a week.

Still, I doubt Baynes is ever any kind of true offensive force. But if we could get him a couple baskets a night (if/when he gets regular minutes) then it would be very helpful. Clearly though it's his rebounding that will make him his money.

With a lead, there's no reason not to give him minutes in the second half. I don't see any way that's not a great thing for him and the team.

As long as baynes rebounds, he'll get minutes. Spurs have so many scorers, they don't need him to score points. Just rebound. As long as he doesn't make any boneheaded mistakes, 5-7 rebounds a night should keep him seeing consistent rotation minutes.
Spurs can't have 5 on 4. He has to be able to do something on offense. He looked nervous. Lets see if he settles down in second half.

I completely agree. Didn't mean to sound like I was bagging on him. I was just pointing out that sometimes the success of the pick and roll is in the skill of the roller and not just the passer.

i think we will see a lot of lineups with Mills, De Colo, and Baynes in the 4th quarter

Against Charlotte, it's more like 4 on 3 tbh. Let's see if you settle down in second half.

It's clear Baynes is not skilled or he was playing in Spain, Israel or Turkey, not in a ty team from nowhere. But I think he will put lots of monster dunks when playing alongside to Splitter and Timmy.

Good opportunity for Blake to see if he can be more dominant and put the team on his back.
    Im watching Houston-Denver.

Baynes could of had a easy dunk if de colo had dropped the dime and he could of possibly had an ally opp with TP but to me it looks more like the spurs getting used to playing with him.

Not really iirc. Splitter was different from the Euro stereotype in that he was a solid defender when he first came in but took a bit longer for his offense to come around. Obviously it took Splitter time to get as good as he is now, but his initial calling card was being able to defend tbh...

Baynes is probably going to be on a similar curve. Probably faster because I don't think Pop's going to underplay for 2 seasons.
