This is epistemology and the nature of the skeptic is to not believe something until given a reason to believe something. Belief has to be earned and be repeatable under that paradigm.

Brainwashing implies that you were taught a particular behavior and that particular behavior is 'washed' away to be replaced by something else. Specifically, you are defending the idea of TRUTH in an ultimate metaphysical sense (in a word, "Being"), whereas the people you are attacking are generally interested in practical truth based on physical proof and probabilities in a mutable environment ("Becoming"). They are entirely different beasts, and your preference for one will never be persuasive to people whose preference is the other because they simply operate according to different rules.
