With the Spurs being "beyond appealing" to Re , I wonder if the FO thinks they can resign him relatively cheap (nowhere near the rumored $10M/year)? Again, that only happens if the FO thinks Re is a decent upgrade over Green.
I'm just curious what the Spurs would include in a deal for Red .

The bit about the Austin home is interesting. If they see Re as a significant enough upgrade over Green, and if they have good reason to believe they can retain him long-term, then something like Green plus Bonner for Re plus O'Quinn might actually make sense.
Edit: Looks like Seventyniner had the same thoughts, but a bit sooner.

Detroit out of running for JJ Re , source says
Sounds like Orlando has a deal ready. Hopefully it's with the Spurs.
If the spurs are that interested in JJ, then there has to be a second trade in the works to move Neal/Green/Mills/De Colo to create the playing time since Magic only want a pick and not more players.
Kobe would be pretty hard to trade, given his salary and no trade clause. Especially now with the new lux tax rules . Also, You think he would voluntarily let Dwight take over his team?
I wonder if Manu has talked to the FO about retiring after this season, and the Spurs see a Re / Green combo for the future.
Re is an awesome player. hope we get him

I think the tweet is referring to an end of season scenario if the Lakers don't move Dwight today. I don't have Insider, so I'm not sure what the article states.

Despite efforts, Spurs will fall short in bid for J.J. Re , league sources tell Y! Sports.
the best trade scenario would be that the Spurs give up Bonner, Blair and Mills/Neal/De Colo + draft pick and get Re and Kyle O'Quinn. Wouldn't like to give them Diaw, Green or Jax.
Screw Re he's a lousy player. we don't need him
I understood that. Regardless it holds true for now or the summer.
Anything's possible, but I don't believe that Manu has made any decision about his future yet. I think it's more likely that the Spurs simply view Re as a significant enough upgrade over Green to pay the additional salary to keep him. We'll have a partial answer, at least, in the next three hours.
Not like we had a hole to fill, nor would it have been that he would be the player that would put us over the top.
I'm crossing myself right now. Thank the heavens this trade looks like it's not going to happen.
Still, I hope it's a smoke screen.
I see what you're saying. As someone else pointed out, the only way it happens is if the Lakers amnesty Kobe, but I don't see that happening.
damn, hope that doesn't mean we want Gibson now.
Pop ing around with others
How can we get Gibson without giving up someone in the process? A second round pick aside, we still have 15 on our roster. Is there anyone worth dropping for him? I don't think so, unless he can handle ball pressure from Eric Bledsoe.
Figured I'd get the spurstalk player meltdown out of the way.
Pop should really stop texting offers of Bonner+ Blair for LeBron.
