Whoa. We're talking about Manu fans, not Mexicans. You'll have to excuse the few in here who are rather intolerant. DPG is actually one of the worst.

As they should. We speak English in the United States.
Theres a difference between speaking English and disowning your first language. I speak English the majority of the time, but if someone speaks to me in Spanish I have no problem responding in Spanish...I didnt word that statement very well though tbf.

Youre a good guy, DPG. Starting to feel bad about welching on you tbh.

There's a growing trend among Hispanics (especially young ones) to try and act civilized and American, or white . I welcome it tbh, they've been here long enough where it's about time they start assimilating like every other group did
What's strange is there is no prouder immigrant than the Mexicans who immigrated to the US during the Mexican Revolution. The Mexicans of that particular generation, like most immigrant groups of the early-1900s, willingly assimilated, learned the language, and ultimately considered themselves American above all else, but at the same time remained proud of the their heritage and merged elements of their culture with American culture (just like Italians on the East Coast, Scandinavians in the Northwest, etc). I couldn't imagine the Southwest without its Mexican influences.

They also raised their children as Americanized as possible. You'll find that most Baby Boomer Mexican-Americans are more passionate flag wavers than any redneck.

Not sure when the mentality changed. Mexicans immigrants just come here to work now and aren't really interested in being Americans like previous generations. Even though they live, work, and raise their families in the United States, they still see themselves as Mexicans above all else, unlike previous Mexican immigrant generations. I think the movement led by Cesar Chavez might've been the turning point. After that, Mexicans (and the politicians who pander to that voting base), like African Americans, suddenly embraced victimhood and learned to use it as a powerful political tool.

Yeah, happens all over San Antonio tbh. Kinda weak to give in to the honkeys demands to completely assimilate and disown your mother tongue like that imo. Ive been called a by people with Mexican ass names because I speak Spanish openly.

For the record, I initially felt bad before I posted it because they're real people and stuff. But no one made them pose like that. And no one made the director of the Spurs website put it on the front page. I don't want to see that when I get on Spurs.com to check out Manu's horrendous stat-line from last night.

    Daily occurance here.

I have tons of puerto rican friends and they act like they dont speak spanish even though they do. Funny still is that when some do speak it they butcher their own language to appear like its foreign to them. lol

So someone who desires to speak English in an English speaking country needs to be "rounded up and gassed?"

I bet you root for Mexico when they play the United States in soccer.

Question for all you bean3rs: Why do you live and work here if you have such a distaste for American culture?

This is why people tell you to "go back to Mexico" since it's quite obvious you'd rather live there than here.

Were you born in Mexico? (inB4 you say, "Haven't I made that obvious?" I'm not sure. I've meant countless Mexican-Americans who took a Mexican studies course in college that awakened their inner Cesar Chavez, and over night, they hated everything to do with Anglo-American culture).

If not, then Spanish isn't your mother tongue.

White Americans root for Manny Pacquiao (who's not an American citizen) while booing Mayweather...

I don't believe in country borders or in using 1 single language to communicate. IMO that is a medieval and stupid way of thinking.

What I wanna know though is why a culture refusing to cave in and completely assimilate bothers white people so much? If theyre acting up and creating problems then sure...but if its just a hard-working immigrant that wants to retain his culture whats the big problem with that ?

Yes. Would still be my mother tongue even if I was born here too, since it wouldve been my first language regardless.

If you feel yourself swelling with pride when you see this, then you're an American. If not, then you probably voted for Obama.

This phrase highlights exactly what I'm talking about. Lives and works in the US, enjoying all the advantages of the US's superior infrastructure, but still loves Mexico above all else.

I ask again: If Mexico was so great, why didn't you just stay there?

midnightpulp, raising real questions, only to be ignored. I met a couple in my apartment complex who came here from Singapore. they didn't speak english that well but they were at least trying to learn the language. I chatted with them every now and then and they eventually got better. can't say that for your average border jumper to out an anchor baby.
