The maxium in child support for 2+ kids is 25% of your net income plus insurance (in Texas anyway). If she's getting $1200 of it you're either exaggerating, owed a load of back support, or you definitely need a better lawyer....there's no way that's all you can be left with.

My wife and I meet the first two, but I am still in college for the last bit, so our bank account hasn't gotten over 3 digits in a while. Our net worth is very negative at this point, after you factor out the intangible value of my education.
It is not always possible or desirable to wait until you can "afford" kids.
You are also leaving out the other half of the equation: the irresponsible men who abandon the single moms in the first place.
