Talk about dedication to his craft, Kobe went under the knife < 24hrs of his injury. That's insane. I'm sure he'll be ready to start next season:

Vitti said Bryant would be immobilized for at least a month after surgery. If Bryant were to recover on the short end of the six-to-nine month timetable the team provided, he might be able to play at the start of the 2013-14 season.

Bryant told Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak as much.

"Speaking to him this morning, that certainly was his goal," Kupchak said. "I think it would be aggressive to think he could be ready for training camp ... (but for the season opener) I think that's a goal. I think that's a realistic goal for him."

Kobe will be back by the start of next season. He'll have a successful surgery. Then he'll have access to the best physical therapists to rehab him.

Kobe actually deserves credit for getting the surgery ASAP. I don't understand why athletes wait on the surgery for a few weeks.
Usually after knee injury, there's a lot of soft-tissue swelling and inflammation in the area, which can distort anatomy and/or complicate the healing process. I think with ACLs especially, a lot of docs like to wait a few weeks for all that in the knee to die down before they operate on a patient.

Coming from someone who had a complete rupture of his right Achilles, I call major bull on this. 8 months minimum, just to be able to walk semi normal. Sure I didn't have world renowned doctors or baby fetus access to speed up my recovery. That tendon is like no other in the body. But, go ahead, come back in 6. Watch that mother er pop that rubber band again... So tired of hearing him called a ing "warrior" too.

Kool - there is no denying it. I always know what to do to shut you up. I let you know right up front what I'm doing too and you are too dumb to stop it.

Kind of like a Kobe injury..

One thing for sure, if Bryant can come back from his injury guns and blazing, it'll be a statement to his greatness, not like its not already established. Hope you can come back soon Bryant.

Per Gary Vitti's estimate, which is beyond optimistic and most like a PR move to salvage season ticket sales.

A more realistic timetable is 12-14 months. Kobe had a complete rupture. No way in he's ready opening day.
    ok doctor pulp.

stupid ass players can come back depending on the speed of the rehab, and the response their body gives them, and we all know how kobe is. quit googling and posting. guy will be back under 7 Months book it.

This is exactly what I thought of when I saw Kobe go down. Not the comeback part, but the reaction players have when they know they just popped their Achilles.

I just laugh at all the warrior stuff I hear thrown around. I'm sure many on this board have played through injuries at some point in their lives. Kobe is "tough" by todays NBA standards, but nowadays professional athletes are just so damn pampered their whole lives they have to exaggerate injury as an excuse if they don't perform well.

I am nowhere near professional athlete level, but I have rolled my ankles playing ball numerous times and kept playing that day, and that's just playground ball. I severely sprained my ankle playing high school ball in a tourney. My ankle swelled up to a grapefruit, and I played the 10am game the next morning. Granted, both my ankles permanently look like grapefruits now , but Kobe is not the only one that plays though it "for the love of the game". I'm sure plenty others on this board have similar stories.

I hate when I see todays basketball players rolling around in agony (college and pros) when they take a fall I've taken a hundred times playing ball in the gym on the playground, in the backyard. That includes Spur players too! Of course there are legitimate spills, but most of the falls can be walked off without laying on the ground for 5 minutes wincing and rolling around.

It would be totally irresponsible to rush himself back that quickly. If he tries to expedite his recovery process in order to play opening day, he risks reaggravating the injury. He'd be in' stupid to not sit out at least til January.

It's you who needs to stop googling and reading about players like Terrell Suggs and David Beckham, both of whom bounced back relatively quickly from their Achilles injuries. Suggs had a partial tear and plays a much slower paced sport. Beckham did have a complete tear, but plays in a sport that demands much less athleticism. A more comparable example is Chauncey Billups, who took a year to recover from a partial tear. But yeah, Kobe is this near-divine specimen that possesses superhuman qualities and will recover from one of the most severe injuries in sports in just a few months.

Kobe trying to be a "warrior" is why he got hurt in the first place, so for the sake of you mouth breathing re s who worship him, let's hope he learned from his mistake.

Don't you worry bout a dam thang lil homie...Those German doctors that fixed Kobe's knees will inject his ankle area with all kinds of stem cells and enriched blood platelets he'll straddle the line of PED experimentation but he won't cross the line...I'm expecting him to be good as new...

Guys, it's amazing how many people, who haven't spent a week in a Training Room, can have all these "expert" opinions.
A completely ruptured Achilles with round the clock care and attention and surgery, could be fixed and have him up and going in 6 months with varying degrees of success. It's all up to him and his treatment. At his age, with his game, he may not be Mamba, but even 80% Bean would be a Top 10 SG.
