"Federal officials told NBC News that Boston police were guarding a “possible suspect” who had been wounded in the blasts, but they cautioned that there was no information at the federal level to consider that person a suspect."

Evidently, one of the victims dead is an 8-yr-old kid.
people. Goddamn.
Thanks Obama!... there goes the "but he kept us safe" card...
I'm not an Obama fan but I'm not sure you can blame him for this. Every time something awful like this occurs I go back to my "go to" logic that the only person to blame is the one that decided he was more important than anyone else and had the right to kill innocent people.
I'm actually surprised something like this hadn't happened earlier. I was just thinking of train stations or the like, but some spread out public event like this is logical.
There are so many easy, "soft", targets out there that it's beyond impossible to defend them all. Something like this was only a matter of time.
I expect the partisan bull to start up in Washington by tomorrow morning
Unfortunately you're right. It was just a matter of time. We are lucky that it doesn't happen more often what with 75% of the world hating us and the fact that we as a nation now breed hate, ignorance, intolerance, and then reward stupidity with 24 hour news channels and the Internet.
Doesn't make this any less awful.
I keep hoping that at some point one of the many horrible things that keeps happening will finally make it obvious that we need to focus on better security rather than more security. Especially considering the city that this afternoon was caught off guard by several bombs being detonated is the same city that just a few years ago shut the down because people from Adult Swim put up a couple of lite-brite cartoon characters without previously obtaining permission.
Funt, you seem pretty fired up today.
What I'm really curious about is the motive and whether the BM represented something (to the perp(s)) other than a place with a bunch of easy targets.
No more so than usual. I'm tied to my computer all day because I'm now in the two weeks before final papers are due for the semester. I always post a lot when I want/need to procrastinate but can't justify walking away from the laptop.
Well the location and date could be significant, but it could just be it's a big enough international event.
Damn, I hadn't even thought about the fact that this was tax day (I always get mine done early) and Boston's obvious relevance to that event.
There was a Saudi national at the finish line. He was questioned and released. To my knowledge there is no idea who is responsible.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations also is asking American Muslims to offer authorities any leads they may have to help capture the perpetrators of Monday's blasts.
CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper says it's unfortunate that Muslims are often instantly considered suspects in such attacks.
The Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Muslim Peace Coalition USA also condemned the Boston bombings and extended condolences to victims and their families.
The wheels of government move slowly..

"We just don't know whether it's foreign or domestic," said Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
"My understanding is that it's a terrorist incident," Sen. Dianne Feinstein told reporters, saying she had been in contact with U.S. intelligence agencies. Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, said intelligence officials reported no advance warning that "there was an attack on the way."
Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, the senior Republican on the panel, issued a written statement that said, "As the evidence mounts that this was a terrorist attack, our intelligence and law enforcement agencies must do whatever is necessary to find and interrogate those responsible so we can prevent similar attacks."
Maybe, maybe not. The last time we had a president use up our cruise missiles on targets in civilian zones, we got 9/11. Now we have a president using drones and causing excessive collateral damage. It could be a response to our drones.
Well not only is it tax day, but the Boston marathon is simply run ion the third Monday of April every year.
It's called "Patriots Day."
It has to do with battles won in 1775.
Went a long time before it got completely partisan tbh.
Knew I could count on you, though.
Wow...
I would have said the same thing if a republican did the cruise missiles and drones to the extent Clinton and Obama did. It isn't a partisan attack, its putting facts into possible perspective. Also note, I started with "maybe, maybe not."
You've worked the cruise missile shtick too much for that to be believable.
Embrace your hackery.
Sorry Master Baiter, I will never be close to the hack you are. Or is that whacker?
You'll never make a good joke, that's for sure, hack.
