I like it. I was hoping we would do this, guy still has some skills and drive. I'm sure first round jokes are coming but I like this move by Pop and co.

this could be the craziest and most low risk-high reward move that the spurs could have done. let's see what he has left.

The San Antonio Spurs have signed Tracy McGrady. He played in China earlier this season, averaging 25 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists.

How are people saying it's desperate?? Clearly Leonard can't play 48 minutes a game and while Manu is slowly coming back, it'll be great to have a tall forward who can pass and iso from the bench during those long droughts that the bench has been experiencing lately. Especially since it won't cost anything since I doubt he'll be resigned.

Spurs badly needed another SF. McGrady might seems like a crazy gamble but it's not like there were tons of high quality SFs available. McGrady isn't really more a reach than Donte Greene, Quention Richardson or Dominic McGuire.

I'm not a fan of McGrady at all, tbh..he doesn't play defense, I'm not convinced that he can effectively play a role in a system, and he has the loser gene..

However, it's not a bad signing..it's a low-risk move, and as Zach Lowe said, he has always been a good passer..part of the problem with the Spurs second unit has been the lack of a creator to utilize their abilities as spot-up shooters..McGrady can't penetrate like he did in his prime, obviously, but he can create opportunities out of the post and he's a much better creator than Neal, De Colo or any 2nd unit guy outside of Ginobili..

Also, while McGrady is a loser, he isn't soft, nor is he scared of the moment, and the Spurs could use a guy that won't be scared..

He can't be any worse than Stephen Jackson, too, tbh..

McGrady will be hungry to prove himself, this could be his last opportunity in the NBA on a top-level team..Pop won't hesitate to give him minutes either, which wouldn't have been the case if the Spurs signed a random scrub like McGuire..

Bones ‏@Barryathree 28s T-Mac should not be total shock, shocking yes…have worked him out. Reminds of when I played for SA on 05 team; great résumé, low risk/reward

McGrady has signed his deal with the Spurs, and his Letter of Clearance has arrived from China, sources say.

He isn't afraid to take a big shot or too shoot. I'm not sure how much he has left but we needed someone to fill that position. For 5 to 8 minutes a game, why not?

At least the Spurs signed someone with actual talent
tired of signing all the euro rejects or 1 dimensional players whose skills dont really fit the position they play
