Why do people assume hes a loser? His Magic were an 8th seed that one year they gave up that 3-1 lead to Detroit, and they only had that lead because of how amazing Tmac was. He was a dumbass for claiming victory before the series was over but thats a completely different subject. He never failed to produce in the playoffs, his teams just werent very good.

Not that that matters since hes a different player now. But its a solid signing, Leonard cant play all game and hes a much better option at SF than Green/Manu tbh.

I like what Bones Barry had to say.

Bones ‏@Barryathree 28s T-Mac should not be total shock, shocking yes…have worked him out. Reminds of when I played for SA on 05 team; great résumé, low risk/reward
While he doesn't fit the mold of a typical Spurs defender, he exceeds the mold of a multi-purpose swingman. In his prime, he did things that Danny Green can't even fathom to try. I don't think he'll play alot, but like Gary Neal, an opposing team still has to respect his presence on the court. If it opens up things in the middle for our bigs and especially, for TP, then this is a WIN for RC!

What has T-Mac been doing lately, tbh? I hope he's in shape, but then again he'll probably only play <10 minutes per game, so it may not matter much.

, knowing Pop he might not play at all until he learns the system.

EDIT: Sounds like he played heavy minutes in China, actually. Well, that's good.

Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard 1m I asked T-Mac how much he can realistically contribute. He said "I guess that's the unknown." He avg 25p, 7r, 5a in China this year.

someone did call this early and I did think about it "CIA Pop would be a ing genius if this would happen"

holy , it became a reality

From what I heard TMac is in shape and been balling in China. So this could be at least an improvement over Jax/Nobody

@Chris_Broussard 2m T-Mac told me, "I'm just glad to be a part of this environment," T-Mac said via text. "Something I never experienced while being my best."

So how many former All Stars past their prime have the spurs signed over the last decade or so?

    Tmac, Finley, McDyess, ?

I agree with people saying this is a low risk signing. Tmac was desperate to get back into the NBA. Spurs were desperate for a competent 2/3 for Manu/Diaw/bad second unit play-making insurance.

I'm not expecting much from him but you can't possibly think our chances have decreased with this signing, unless the people crying "1st round exit" thought so before we signed tmac. There's no obligation to play him. At worst, we've paid peanuts to keep a bench-warming Tmac around for the playoffs, and our chances are no different than if we hadn't signed him.

what kind of shape is he in?

can he even run 2 horses?
he has been playing in China all year...he can't be that out of shape tbh especially since he probably won't be asked to play 20 minutes.

depth wise, it makes sense. but does he get into the rotation only if manu gets hurt, diaw stays hurt and another player fails ? or does he get into the rotation regardless ?

There is NO backup SF on the rooster and they aren't gonna run Manu into the ground playing against Durant, Lebron (maybe), so I think he'll get 10-15 minutes a game. I think Blair doesn't get one minute in the playoffs as McGrady will get backup PF minutes in the first round and back to SF in the second.

Watching some of his highlights from China earlier in the year, he still has some hops, won't need that in SA, but good to know if he does get to the basket he can finish strong.

    From ptr:

    J. Gomez (Edg5): FWIW, he was killing it in China, scoring 25 points a game, pulling down 7.2 boards and dishing out 5.1 assists.
    and
Juan Cantu: Even though it’s against lesser compe ion, those are pretty good numbers. Wilson Chandler averaged 26.6 ppg, 11.6 rpg and 2.3 apg when he played in China, so I think we can expect a decent player in T-Mac. More of a shooter and passer than a rebounder, but that’s exactly what we need. Size on the wings!
