“I love the NBA’s refs,” Duncan declared. “I will never talk bad about them, ever again.”

I'm sorry thats good because... It's just showing how naive he was about the olympic situation by blaming the refs.

You can't deny that Duncan got a raw deal in the Olympics though. Several phantom fouls were called on him. There were a few times where he couldn't do anything to stay out of foul trouble. He didn't even need to guard anyone and fouls were called.

I know that the refs aren't to blame for team U.S.A.'s failings. But you can't deny that the international officials are inferior to the N.B.A. officials. The big issue is consistency. International officials will call touch fouls but let takedowns slide. There isn't any consistency at all.

    N.B.A. referees are simply better.

True ducks, I don't think the Olympics showed a fair representation of the fiba rules / officiating. Both have there draw backs.

As for NBA refs, they don't ref a game they are part of an attraction. They swallow there whistles and let just about anything go by finals time, nba refs aren't consistent from begining to end of the season.

Duncan knows he gets special treatment and protection by NBA refs, something FIBA refs were not willing to do during the Olympics.

It's not like this is the first time Duncan's played in internationals. Duncan played with FIBA refs in two previous Olympic qualifiers, 1999 and 2003. He never had these problems or got hosed by the refs like this in the two previous FIBA affairs. A little home cooking, particularly by the Spanish ref in the USA - Argentina game.

There were several times while I was watching the olympics that Duncan was called for fouls, but hadn't even touched anyone. But like ducks said, the refs at the Olympics were subs. That's probably why Duncan had more trouble than in his previous FIBA experiences. Those guys just weren't qualified. Oh, and I'm pretty sure we can all ignore any Laker fan who asserts that Duncan gets special treatment.

To think the NBA refs are good, compared to the Fiba refs, tells you how pathetic those FIBA refs are.

The FIBA refs must have been total Sequs.

^^ Gee T Park thanks for sharing that wonderful insight, why don't you post something slightly objective rather than trying to pick a fight with sequ in every thread.

They're not real Laker fans, more like closet Spurs fans.

The only real Laker fan here is LakerLanny and not! I'm not him.

My issue with the refs at the Olympics had more to do with the fact that they were only running two on the floor at a time, as opposed to the three you find in the NBA. It was interesting too, considering that they always had a 3rd official on hand anyway.

I think that had a lot more to do with Team USA feeling frustrated with the offciating than the quality of the refs.

You have no idea what you're talking about (mostly because you're not intelligent, but also because you've read maybe 10 of my posts on this board). I've been a Laker fan since Showtime, before you were sperm in your dad's nuts.

the bulk of the calls on Duncan that everyone was claiming were "phantom" fouls were technically fouls...as I have stated previously, in a one on one defensive faceup situation Duncan habitually puts his left hand on the offensive players right hip...and thats a foul under FIBA rules and is a foul under NBA rules as well...it just hasn't been called much in the NBA before...they are already warning players that they intend to start calling it this year...

True Cosmic, but I'm sure that you watched the Olympics, and if you watched carefully there were several "fouls" called on Duncan when he didn't even touch anyone. If that even happens once, it's poor officiating. Duncan is adapatable and will be fine this season regardless of how they call fouls. He always did well in FIBA before. Phantom fouls are a different issue, and they were being called at the Olympics this year.
