All these mainstream writers want to write about big market teams and superstars. They hate being told to write about San Antonio. There's nothing new to say. They get nothing from Pop, none of the Spurs are interesting enough to write about, they don't do stupid too often, and you could find an article from years ago and it would apply today if you changed the names. So it's a given that the Spurs will play a certain way and reach a certain level IF other teams don't live up to their talent levels. Few teams can have everything, those that have basically destroyed the league for years. Now you have teams that have a lion's share of the NBA talent and yet they don't have the poise, or they don't have the chemistry, or they don't have the coach, or they don't have the luck in terms of injuries. When they don't, the Spurs will probably be the team to challenge them since the Spurs maintain a constant level of performance year in and year out. They just don't have the collective talent or the superstars to be a preseason favorite every year.
So why write about them? Why not predict that other teams will beat them? If you pick the Spurs and they win, big deal. No one cares. If you picked the Grizz and they win, hey you picked a lower seeded team, you have foresight, you're an oracle.
Spot on tbh
Spurs fans know why no one cares about the Spurs they just pretend not to.
They like big, explosive games from superstars just as much as everyone else. They just pretend not to because it never happens on their team. I know several Spurs fans had DVD copies made of Ginobilis "50 point game" against the Suns back in 2005. They love the extraordinary as much as anyone else, they just cant admit it because they live in San Antonio.
The highest scoring game of any Spur this season was 34. To put that in perspective, Jared Dudley had a season of 36 this year.
So why would the media talk about the Spurs? What is there to say and why would anyone care?
I'd like to see Jared Dudley do that, tbh....
He's right, and one of the best writers out there at the moment tbh.
Thanks for David Robinson highlights. Not please tell me which Spur had a big game this season, .
sports "writer" letting fan base get under his skin
I don't really hate on Simmons because of that, the guy works for ESPN so over time, I've just assumed everybody their has takes but sometimes, I listen to Simmons and the guy sometimes has good takes. But there are a ton of Spurs fans along with fans of a lot of other teams that will call you a hater if you pick against their team. The life of sports I guess.
He's still 100% right about Spur fan being an oversensitive little when you don't say nice things about her. Seriously. I love the Spurs but I hate almost all the fans who post here because it's a non stop attention fest for negative articles about the Spurs. "Guys! Look what these ers said about the Spurs! Boring?!?!?! Have you seen the scoreboards?!?!? And did you hear what this got said on ESPN today?!?!" Seriously. GNSF needs to stop being an oversensitive . Not many people like the Spurs outside of San Antonio. When you go out into the world and mingle with other folks, like, oh, I dunno, the fans and media representatives of 29 other teams, you're going to find out people don't like you.
I don't think Simmons hates the Spurs at all. And I honestly don't blame him for trying to save face when he was wrong. Everyone does that.
Blahhhhhhhhhh, more hate from this guy here! Go watch your Suns... Wait.
You seem to be a lot more oversensitive about this than the Spurfans you're talking about. Look at all your nerd rage insults about them. Pretty embarrassing and ironic imo.
Grey or bolded names don't mean on here or anywhere either. There's an equal proportion of ty bolded name fans than there are grey names. Completely meaningless. Post count doesn't mean either. It just means that they were around and being ty posters for even longer.
I also never said Simmons hates the Spurs, I said he had ty Spurs knowledge due to his fail predictions and refusal to admit he was wrong. Strawman.
this kent wont last long if he rego onto spurstalk....
I just consider them more re ed than insecure. There's at least some storyline you could make yourself believe as a Spurs fan to why the world hates you. As a Laker fan you've gotta be just dumber than to believe some of the stuff posted on LG.
he may not hate the spurs, but his ignorance sure is annoying.
Unadulterated pure ing truth..casual fan loves to see showboaty displays of pure athleticism like highlight reel dunks and only one the Spurs have that makes really impressive ones of those is Kawhi and if you gathered all of his highlight reel dunks from this year they would like have a hard time rivaling any five game stretch from Lebron or a healthy Blake..
Anyone who reacts to this by getting annoyed at Simmons just proves his point.
All sports fans are annoying when national media constantly down plays them. I don't think its anything specific to SA Spurs fans. All teams are equally bad.
You're right, BNSF also starts a ton of threads whining and crying any time the media doesn't get down on its knees and suck a silver and black . I was wrong to only accuse GNSF of doing it. My bad. And nerd rage insults? The only one who seems to be insulted here is you and I didn't even single you out. Besides, I was just giving a sarcastic example of how your generic "Oh no! Look at this negative comment someone made about the Spurs!" thread goes upstairs. I've been here for seven years and it happens damn near almost every day. The only thing embarrassing or ironic going on right now is how you said my use of sarcasm was embarrassing and ironic when you essentially did the exact same thing in detailing typical ESPN logic when picking against the Spurs in your previous post:
I might have used more swearing to get my point across, but you can't have it both ways, dip . There are a lot of oversensitive Spurs fans upstairs, that's a fact. You can talk about how post counts and username typesetting doesn't mean because you've only been here for a year and don't want to get lumped in with the crowd of folks who clearly don't know what they're talking about, but they can also indicate whether or not someone has the experience to speak on certain subjects like the propensity of a lot of Spurs fans here to take anti-Spurs media comments way too personally. And if you mean to insinuate that the kind of topics and comments I've just described don't frequently go on upstairs, then, well, you're an idiot.
You're really on some kind of crusade with this one, aren't you? The original post in this thread features a tweet of Simmons saying all Spurs fans think you hate the Spurs if you pick against them. All I said was I don't think Simmons hates the Spurs because he picked against them. I never said you said anything. Try to keep up.

Simmons should be big boy enough to know that some fans of any and every team expect their team to win and get upset when they are picked against.
Simmons should also be big boy enough to of learned not to pick against the Spurs when its not warranted.Such as the Golden State and Grizzlies series.
Simmons also needs to be careful how he qualifies Spurs fans as a whole. Case in point, I can easily say he's a douchy Boston sports fan just like every single one of them.
