i'm cool with how that went down on film for the most part. stabbing the unborn prince made up for the significant number of bannermen omitted from the slaughter scene. figured they were saving that for the season finale though. actually kind of wondering how they'll end the next one now.
it's also too bad this show has 4,000 characters and isn't on AMC because Mic e Fairley could have won an Emmy for the last 5 minutes
If I had more time, I'd definitely pick up the books. That was just too good last night. I have to admit, Martin takes what you think will happen next and turn it on its ear. Even the scene with Jon Snow and the old man at the lookout tower was tense by itself.
The Red Wedding, even though written 10 years ago, could be one of the most breathtaking scenes in television history.

There are A LOT of differences in that scene from the way it's done in the novel though, almost with the intended purpose of making it seem like they went to far. In the novel, Stark's wife isn't pregnant and remains at Riverrun whilst the others all go to the wedding. And in the TV version when Lady Stark takes Frey's wife by the throat and begs them not to kill Robb, in the novel it's actually Frey's grandson and he says something like "I'll gladly trade my grandson for your son" which I think is way more colder than the TV version. For the most part I'm cool with how they did it on TV except for that last part.
I guess we'll see next week if they do what happens with Robb's body in the books. Or is that too much to show?
With all the that's happened to Theon this season, I doubt that would be pushing it by too much. Especially if they got away with writing in stabbing a pregnant woman in the belly. Plus they did kind of set it up already showing Arya witness Frey's men x-bowing Greywind to death.
Well that was depressing.
I agree, but there have been some things that happened in the book I thought would be shoo-ins for the show that they either glossed over or reworked in a weird, overly complicated way. Like Stannis going to the Wall.

They also dump Cateyln's naked corpse into the river as a mocking gesture of the Tully's water burial. Overall, they did the Red Wedding justice. Did anyone else have a THAT’S THAT’S GOTTA BE...THAT’S GOTTA BE KANE moment once the Rains of Castamere started playing? I had a flashback to the WWF at ude era.
Meh, I found the first book to be massively overwritten, got annoyed and couldn't finish it. Imo GoT is an example of the tv show being much better than the books, fwiw
I totally agree, i read 3 or 4 of the books a few years back and it was underwhelming. TV show on the other hand is brilliant
Richard Madden(Robb Stark) played that scene amazingly. Had the look of pure shock instead of anguish or sadness which made it much more realistic IMO. When he stood to his feet he knew that he was dead and wanted to die with honor instead of pleading for his life. Top notch acting all around. ing epic

Seriously though (not that I wasn't being serious above lol), I think him riding off was just one of those conceits writers make to build some suspense/shock into an otherwise formulaic scene. I fully expect him to come back for her next ep (no spoliers bookies!).

I predicted the outcome of that. There were too many things leading in that direction, not the least of which being that there are too many Starks to keep up with and that part of the story has jumped the shark already. I saw it coming a mile away and I was surprised they telegraphed it as much as they did. With little one finding her family, the wedding, the unborn, the power moves in other places... it had to happen.

Dude, wtf are you talking about? She was ready to kill her whole tribe just to protect him. Granted, there was a while there where it seemed possible that she was just playing him, but imo since the scene where he saved her on the cliff the writers clearly took it in the direction of Snow and her vs the world. Could be just because I'm lonely but I really liked that dynamic.

I dont know what you see in them together. They're not even a match. Completely imcopatible. One is sensible, resposible and the other is a raw animal that would kill someone just based on an order.
I guess I find that animalistic, dangerous quality of her's exciting, from Jon's perspective. If I take Jon's perspective, I could definitely see what would be enticing about the thought of taming a wild girl like that, making her mine. Civilizing her, but knowing when you look in her eyes that there's still a certain wildness. I'd imagine it would keep you on your toes in a thrilling way. And of course you'd expect that wildness to come out during sex, if nowhere else. Don't think I'd get tired of a girl like that. Whenever their scenes come up this song plays in my head:
I'm glad the showrunners have been sticking to the story and taking the risks unlike Walking Dead which is just giving into fan service.
