You know, I wouldn't have even minded if Joe Crawford was reffing the game. He did good in game 6. That was the one game he could've really stiffed us on, but he didn't. He's redeemed himself to me.
No, don't forget Game 6 vs. GS. I think I lost count of the Spurs fans assuming a Game 7 when they discovered Joe C was officiating that night.

Foster is a terrible official. Not saying he's biased either way but just a bad ref IMO. Makes terrible calls at times.
Danny Crawford and McCutchen are ok with me.
I agree. The NBA has a huge problem that they flat out refuse to address and even promote people to wonder if the game is rigged. When I watch football I don't even think about the refs.
I only know Ed Hochuli in the NFL, because he's the old jacked dude.

Yeah, Joey earned some credit. He was a remarkably good official throughout the playoffs. Even handed, few missed calls or botched calls. Still hate him, but credit where due.
Records and biases don't matter now. Hope that the order these guys have is to let the teams play and to let the compe ion between two great teams on the game's biggest stage play itself out. Let the best team win. After seeing two weeks of exceptional basketball played at just about the highest physical and mental level possible -- and cleanly, without a lot of extracurricular nonsense -- it would be shameful for the league if the officiating had anything to do with the outcome tonight.
It's Danny Crawford's 2nd Finals Game 7 (2010) and Foster's 2nd (2010); it's McCutchen's first. It's the first time since 1988 that the NBA has had a Game 7 of the Finals without Joey Crawford officiating (he had the Game 7's in 1994, 2005, and 2010). I do think the experience of the Crawford and Foster matters here. I also think it helps that while McCutchen hasn't been on this particular stage before, he's already been involved in two games in this series and has a good grasp on what's been going on with these teams.
I think McCutchen (though he can be overbearing) is, arguably, the league's best official. Yeah, he missed the Manu/Battier block/charge call in Game 5, but I think beyond that single call, his officiating in Games 1 and 5 has been just exceptional.

Hoping so - but refresh my memory on Danny Crawford. He used to be a favorite official, because he was even-handed, fair, and seemed unswayed by a home crowd. True? False? In the middle?
But How many of those were with Danny Crawford as the Head ref. Crawford is really the only ref I know that will actually pull the refs and tell them to tone down if he feels they are dictating a game. And i already ever seen Pop get upset with him. Monty is a Texas native and calls games favorable for the Spurs. Monty/Foster is a wash and the fact Danny imo is probably the best ref in the NBA, this bodes well for the Spurs. Least its not Kennedy which you can tell Pop hates.

The 4th Quarter of 2010's Game 7 is right up there with 2002 Game 6 tbh. Crawford and Foster are bad news, but the Spurs have enough to worry about.

In the Big 3 era, they're 12-3 with Foster in the playoffs (2 of the 3 losses were in home games -- Game 2 of the 2013 ECF v. IND and Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals v. DAL; the other was Game 3 of the 2012 ECF at Boston).
Including the 2012-13 regular season, they're 10-1 with Foster in this NBA year; and if you go back to the 2012 playoffs, they have won 12 of 13 (but not 13 of 14) with Foster. I'm not sure the regular season says much, since their 6 regular season games with Foster were:
vs. Brooklyn (in early December)
at Orlando (on New Year's Eve)
vs. LA Lakers (in February)
vs. Orlando (in March)
at Boston (in March)
vs. Chicago (in April)
With all of that said, if there's a game manipulator working in these playoffs, it's Foster and that scares me -- I kept an eye on him in a few deadball situations during Game 4 (just out of curiosity) and noticed on several occasions that he sort of hacked his arm, as if making a signal to another official, then pointed a finger at the other end of the floor, only to have something called on the other end (and on a couple of occasions, the calls seemed iffy). It could have been something totally innocuous; sometimes officials make that signal to seemingly remind others on the crew that a particular team has a foul to give or something like that and I didn't notice those signals in a time where that seemed necessary. But the correlation was, um, surprising. (He made similar signals to his crewmates (from my observation and recollection) shortly before Duncan's flurry of fouls in Game 2 of the West Finals.). I agree that he has more leeway to do that (and to dictate that games be called that way) when he's the crew chief and I'm somewhat relieved that the league made Danny Crawford the chief rather than Foster.
Two of three best refs in the league. Had they subs uted Joey for Foster I'd it was the three best refs.
That said this is as good a crew as one can hope for.
Mcutchen still amazes me how when he first came in was just so horrible. I mean Zach Zarba bad.
Now he's argued as one of the top three if not best referee in the game.
Miami has lost every finals game that McCutchen was a referee in, dating back to 2011.

I really don't know what to make of Danny Crawford any more, but in the lead up to Game 3 (in which he was the crew chief), other media sources recounted that the Heat are 19-3 in playoff games with Danny Crawford since Wade entered the NBA. If you go behind that number (which was correct), the problem if you're a Spurs fan is that the 3 wins among those 22 games (and now the 4 wins among the 23) by Heat opponents have all been blowouts -- Detroit by 25 in the 2005 East Finals, Chicago by 21 in the 2011 East Finals, Indiana by 19 in the 2012 East Semis, and Spurs by 36 in the 2013 Finals. In other words, if the Heat have been able to avoid being blown out, they've won.
I don't know that I have any anecdotal sense that Danny Crawford is or isn't a homer; by my count, home teams are 6-7 in the 2013 Playoffs with Danny Crawford, but are 3-0 in the last two rounds -- the 6-7 number is "inflated" a bit by the fact that the road team won each of his 4 second round games this year (MIA at Chicago (Gm. 4); IND at New York (Gm. 1); MEM at OKC (Gm. 5); GST at SA (Gm. 2)). Between 2007-2012, home teams won approximately 69% of all NBA playoff games and in Danny's 76 playoff games during that span, home teams were 50-26 (.658) -- slightly below the average. In the Finals, during the same time, home teams are 5-5 in Danny Crawford's games.
For the most part, these games have (on the whole) been much more evenly and fairly officiated than I think we had ay right to hope. It would be fantastic if tonight rounded it out.
I'm okay with this crew although Foster has been atrocious lately.

Agree. Hopefully the other two refs will keep him in check. Or even better, hopefully Scott Foster has the best officiating game that I've ever seen from him because IMO him and Bill Kennedy are $tern's puppets.
