Can't the media just shut up until the deal is either made or permanently dead? It's getting really annoying reading a completely different story every five minutes from every single source on this, and I imagine Celticfan feels the same way, tbh....

Regardless, on the off chance that THIS one's right, it suggests that the whole "Doc backing out, Celtics walking away" thing is basically an act to get Stern to drop the "contingency" objection and okay the deal, tbh....

The Clippers will make another effort Monday to try to complete a deal with the Boston Celtics for Coach Doc Rivers, said NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The Clippers and Celtics talked again Friday but couldn't make a deal.

"I think there is still some life left in it," one executive said. "The door is not closed yet on getting a deal done."

    [...]

One executive who is not a part of the Clippers-Celtics deal laughed about the on-and-off negotiations. "The Clippers are going to wait this out," the executive said.

its always sad to see guys like pierce possibly not finishing his career in boston. you always want franchise players to go out with the team they started with like robinson, bird, magic etc. but thats business

Source w/knowledge of talks tells SportsCity report Doc pulled out is #Celtic ploy to get Clippers to offer No. 1--so this isn't dead yet.

Before he opens his checkbook as the ultimate proof of his new commitment, Sterling is in a holding pattern, as are the Celtics, as the complicated Rivers deal still has to be hashed out to the NBA’s satisfaction. When the details of the trade leaked out that had Rivers going to the Clippers for draft picks, in concert with Jordan’s move for Kevin Garnett, the league killed it, citing collective bargaining agreement rules that prohibit coaches from being part of player transactions.

But this deal looks like it will get done, even as reports surfaced heading into the weekend that Rivers will be going back to Boston. Until the Clippers name a coach, Rivers is still in play.

Rivers can’t return to coach the Celtics. He was actively looking to leave, even with three years left on his deal, at $21 million. He would have some power over personnel decisions with the Clippers, pocket $35 million over five years and get to coach Paul and a team that might not be too far from being a contender in the West.

Boston wants to start the rebuilding process and covets the draft picks that it would get for Rivers, so much so that the Celtics allowed him to go after some vacant jobs, knowing he wants no part of having to coach a team starting over. He didn’t even want to talk to the Nets, sources said, but the Clippers appealed to him from the start.

Like I said before, even if Doc is available, the only reason why the Clips may not go for him is due to his price tag. Sterling doesn't care much about the Clippers unlike Arison, Jerry Buss, Cuban, Alexander. The franchise has seen improvements over the last 2 years, but at the end of the day, Sterling has other business priorities, and he's a penny pincher. This was the dude at one point decided to keep only 8 players in his roster and didn't pay for assistanr Huges medical bill. Maggette, kaman and I think jaric all paid for Kim Hughes medical bills

    My favorite though

"In his first season as the team's owner, Sterling asked head coach Paul Silas if he thought they really needed a trainer.
What initially sounds as if it could be nothing but a joke, Sterling took it to the next level by asking Silas if he could tape players up himself before games"

He's all about the bottom line dollars.

Anyway, Scott is not really a step up than Vinny. He's better, but only marginally. BScott got to the finals twice when the east was the weakest it's ever been and he was carried by his coaching staff tbh, particularly Lawrence Frank who was an excellent assistant tbh. I think Sterling really wants Brian Shaw, but behind closed doors, CP3 is against the hiring and wants a more established coach, perhaps Hollins or Scott if Doc is not available.
