Regular season dominance here we come. Tired hearing how expensive big-men are. What teams have won with overpaid ty bigs? Clippers? Thunder? Dallas couldn't do it for years.

I don't care about what he'll get paid in 2018 or if he'll be on the team. He'd be 34 by then and by no means even as productive as he is now. Just a bad deal all together.
He'll turn 33 midway through his final year. He's not taking up any more of the cap this season. It's really not a big deal.

The deal is what it is for a starting center, fair market value. I just don't think Splitter is as valuable to this team in the 13-14 season to justify it. Unless this is a sign and trade, I hope he earns it.

I do hope his contract with have a flat structure of $9M per season. If it the raising structure, it will end at $10.2M which would be a lot for a 33 years old Splitter.

Thanks for not reading. The pill bottle is waiting. Be sure you take them all, K?
Just don't cry for a big when Duncan regresses because of age and we're left with Tiago Splitter as our Pick N Roll guy.

Realistically, the Spurs couldn't let Tiago sign an offer sheet. Teams signing RFA's to offer sheets usually frontload those deals to maximize the cap hit in the first year to try and scare off the original team from matching. If the Spurs wanted to keep Tiago and try to come away with some capspace this year, they couldn't let Tiago sign an offer sheet. The Spurs kind of got backed into a corner here.

Could also be a nice fat expiring deal to shop around by then...

Splitter is actually a good big man who can defend the pick and roll well when its far from the basket.

His problem is lack of quickness and explosion. Hes like fast dog, but not a quick dog in close confines. This is why the pnr at the elbow with chalmers killed him because hes not fast enough to make quick switches. This is also why he gets blocks because hes not explosive to rise quickly above defenders so its get blocked, or throw up the piece of jump hook.

But sucks for fans thats its just always more of the same with the spurs and free agency. Is it a crime to sign a states-side big who isnt soft.

People are concerned that the spur wont be able to pay KL in 2 years. Are they aware that Tim will probably retire by then?

it isnt the money...its the 5 years people are talking...the thing is youre allowed only one 5 year extension per team, but that rule is for max extensions if I'm not mistaken

Oh god, what a dreadful thought of Timmy retiring.

I don't think even Rasho would have been blocked by every member of the Miami Heat the way Tiago was.

Partially guaranteed, though. Depending on how little is guaranteed, they could just cut him or trade him then.

He's a good big man. Good big men win games and championships in a game with an elevated goal. The existence of LeBron James does not change how you structure your team, that's just a bad idea. As far as price...no hometown discount there, but it's not outrageous. Outrageous is $10m/year for volume shooters or other similar losers.

The Spurs are going to use their five-year extension on Tiago Splitter and not save it for Kawhi?

Kurt Helin is wrong. Spurs will still have the five year extension exception to use on Kawhi next offseason.

He's soft and won't improve anymore on the offensive end. Pop is not going to just start calling plays for him or having him shoot jumpers or develop one..

There won't be a fifth year on the Splitter deal. The terms will be four years, $36 million-plus, sources tell Y! Sports.
