Great deal
well, he was on the open market...
$7M is at or slightly above market value for him, and the likelihood of him actually changing teams was slim-to-none. Worst deal since RJ.
MLE I believe. Unless Spurs amnesty Bonnner then we'd have bout 9 mil
~5.8m if we amnesty Bonner.
Without Manu there likely isn't a game 7 tbh.
Would be a good deal if he was half the player he used to be.![]()
Spurs cannot amnesty Bonner, only Parker is eligible. per J McDonald
Can you get Spurs salary space left ?
41 + 7,8 + 7 that gives 55 mil for 12 players. Am I right ?
so matt barnes, j lucas III, billups, oden and such are the possible options. we are probably out of the running for a jr smith, kirilenko, mayo, etc.. it will be interesting to see what the 2015 free agent class looks like though.
3 yrs/ 20 mil backload deal could land kirilenko probably...
that will leave us with the 5mil/2yr room exception, and probably the vet minimum to add 1 or 2 more pieces...
A 2 year contract is nothing compared to RJ. Think of something better.
Tony Parker is not going to be amnestied. He is, however, the only player the Spurs have who is reasonably amnesty eligible.
Technically, if the Spurs picked up the team option on Matt Bonner, they could chose him. But that would be kind of stupid, and the Spurs aren’t stupid.
They also could technically get rid of Cory Joseph, but with just $1.1 million owed to him next year, why? Again, the Spurs are not stupid.
That’s also why they won’t amnesty Parker.
Someone will offer him more than that.... the guy turned down a $10 million option to become a FA. He can also start for any other team. Seriously doubt we get AK47 at this point.
This years cap space will be determined once we figure out how much $ Manu and Tiago are getting their first year.
I think you should re-read the tweet.
I have $6M with a $58.5M cap space, Bonner amnestied and Neal renounced.
read his tweet again... he said other than bonner, parker is the other availble amnesty candidate... bonner is a perfectly fine candidate for amnesty
He isnt about money. He played in europe in lockout year, because he wanted to help his hometown team.
And Spurs shouldnt offer him 3 yrs, since Duncan, Ginobili will be gone after 2.
I didn't say it was worse than RJ did I? I compared because the Spurs essentially bid against themselves and lost. And the price is that the Spurs will more than likely only have MLE to offer. At least at one point they could offer more than most contending teams.
It`s $6M with after amnestieng Bonner or before ?
Bonner is not getting amnestied...
thats not completely true... he left 10 on the table because he wanted long term security... he will make less per season but guaranteed adding 2 seasons at 10 mil to his contract...
thats not a bad deal if youre ak... say you play this season at 10 mil, you think he could get a 2 yr / 10 mil contract next offseason? probably his value at that point...
then what if he gets injured or has a bad season and cant even get that?
add to that the discount for the chance of playing with his buddy tp and competing for a championship for the first time in his life...
definitely theres some logics and argument to be made!
After. If Bonner isn't amnestied, Spurs will be in a MLE scenario.
No to Kirilenko. Money for missing puzzles like backup C and backup PG.
