It's funny to hear Spur fan talking about wanting Jefferson, because in a series against the Heat he would be in the exact same place as Splitter was...on the bench due to matchups.
Imagine Jefferson trying to guard Bosh on the perimeter. Or James when Big Al switches onto him. Ouch

I agree that Big Al isn't a great fit here but he would absolutely abuse Miami for putting Chalmers, Miller, etc on him. Miami had a PG guarding Tiago out there.
Remember when OKC defended Tiago with Derek Fisher

Never seen a big man embarrass himself like that since Shawn Bradley

I just said Jefferson doesn't fit in well here but lets stop defending Tiago in the Finals. He played like a big pussy out there and was a big reason we didn't win the 'ship.

Exactly. For all his usefulness on the offensive end he would become a traffic cone on the other. If the Spurs can't defend effectively they have no chance against the Heat, no matter what kind of post player is in the lineup.

I never defended him in the Finals. I said Jefferson would not be any better.

Splitter's contribution is mostly to keep Duncan fresh and matchup against bigger teams. The Spurs need Splitter AND another good combo forward to put them over the top.

Hard to get both when the one used to "keep duncan fresh" is making 36M.

Splitter is completely useless without Tony feeding him bunnies at the rim. He's a good defender but soft as tissue paper. And the Spurs rewarded that with $36M. It is what it is.

And I have a hard time seeing under any cir stance Jefferson playing any worse than Tiago did during that particular series.

The Spurs played a starting level big starting level money. That is all that it is. The fact that you are still in emotional girl mode from the finals doesn't change that.

Lets just hope Tiago continues to improve and grows a pair of nuts. Cuz he certainly isn't worth $9M at the moment.

I agree with benefactor. I mean, when they go small ball and Kawhi's at the 4, they need somebody to.. you know, play the Kawhi role at the 3. Makes AK47 perfect imho. They'd probably be fine with Manu at the 3 even if it was Manu of recent years. But present day Manu? Good luck with that.

So now who's going to defend Duncan?
Well Ibaka or Colinson (who is not really worse) but who is going to punish Durant on offense if they go small full time? Not Splitter
