I need to re-watch season 5..
Watched the fly episode again and people are crazy for finding it boring. It'a perfect how the fly represents the guilt Walt has for Janes death. And of course, Jesse has to take care of it releasing Walt guilt while giving Jesse some closure as in the very next episode, he's talking to the new girl. While in Gliding All Over, the fly represents Mike and how much guilt Walt doesn't feel anymore since the fly doesn't bother him anymore. Just a great continuation and writing.

I hated the Fly episode the first two times I watched the series, but I watched the series again recently and found the episode to be so much better than my initial impressions. I do have to agree with my initial thoughts that the series just gets progressively better as from the beginning to the end of Season 5.
As I said I'm a newbie at BB, following the recommendations of everyone on freaking earth on this one, midway thru season 2. I dunno guys, this has got to get a lot better for me to keep interested. I haven't met a character yet that I give a about. Maybe it's just not for me

Stick with it, you'll have conflicting feelings towards a couple characters who you almost want to hate but can't. It's extremely well written. If you aren't into it big time by the end of season 2 or mid way through season 3, then consider yourself the minority.

I know this is a super late reply, the kid is handicapped because of Walt. In the 1st or 2nd season, there is a scene where Walt is teaching a class. He is discussing how certain chemicals mixed can be very helpful. He mentions a certain mixture that is excellent for pregnant women, but if that mixture is off by a fraction, or something of that nature (its been a long time since ive seen it), it can cause the severe complications with the child. He then pauses for a brief moment. It was a small look into his arrogance when it come chemistry thinking we was gonna help the pregnancy. Now, he has to look at his son everyday and see what he caused. That's why he is always going out of his way to please his son.

There are lots of likable characters: Skyler, Walt Jr, Hank, Marie, and especially Jesse.
I've been watching part 1 of season 5 on AMC all day today.
Eh I hope all of them die except for Walt. Breaking Bad isn't about falling in love with a character. that tbh. Leave that to people who watch Lost.

Only characters I like are Hank, Mike (RIP), and Saul. Jesse too, I guess.
Hate Skyler and Marie. Walt Jr. sucks as well because he wouldn't watch Heat with his DEA, fun loving Uncle.

The drug Walt is talking about in that early episode is Thalidomide, which hasn't been used since the early 1960s because of how frequently it caused birth defects. Walt Jr., like the actor who plays him, has cerebral palsy, which is very different from the types of defects caused by Thalidomide.
To piggy back on my previous post....I just rewatched the Salud episode, when Walt is crying telling his son he made a mistake and its all his fault, i think that is what he is alluding too deep down.
Funny thing is, I only watched because it has my favorite scene from the entire series so far when jesse tells of the mexican chemist. Didnt remember the scene above was in it.

It may not be that specific drug, but it hints at something he gave his wife while she was pregnant and how he made a mistake with the chemicals.
Ya, I don't like Walt Jr either, tbh..I don't really like handicap people, no offense to anybody, tbh..

Pretty sure that's entirely a figment of your imagination.
The class lecture is thematically important, rather than contributing to the narrative. As was the case with all of the class lectures in the earlier episodes. The discussion of Thalidomide comes in his lecture about chirality and ties in to the fact Walt has become a fundamentally different man than he used to be despite looking the same.
