Your going to pull out the "you haven't read that book " card this early in the conversation? your already in trouble

If Darwin was still alive you would get yours also.

Um, I didn't really make an analogy.

And, if you read closely, I didn't really say it was *you* specifically that said these things, or could not answer a question. I was simply referring to coolaidman and whatshisbutt evading that question.

Kind of hard to reconcile a kind loving God with one so obviously bent on slaughter.

I don't see much "parable" here that is open to interpretation. This is a pretty straightforward account of mass murder.

    You also dodged the question.

While I commend you for having the nuts to call evil, evil, the question I posed remains.

What does it say about a belief system when people who profess to hold it can't tell you that murdering children is immoral?
You may be surprised to find that I actually agree with you.
My studies of many great books are some, but not all, of the reasons that have led me to my conclusions.
There are too many inconsistencies in the bible to take someone's word that it is All of Gods' words. And to lump it all into being the result of it being parables IMHO is the epitome of naivety. The OT is the worst at this and no thinking person can accept it as being literal.
The NT is only slightly better, and thus has a greater probability of being literal, except of course Revelations which is an apocalyptic form of writing.
I wasn't aware that I dodged any question, but I do my best to answer.
Remember, I do not expect you to believe what I believe, and these are opinions we are discussing.
Your last question presupposes things, that some people believe it, and that other people do not. I am in the "do not" category. Some on here say because of this I am cherry picking. I disagree with that notion.
But back to your question, to my way of thinking, the parts of the bible you are getting this from is doing nothing more than telling a story, giving an example, expressing a stern harsh imaginary reality. Thus anyone believing it in a literal sense might be led to think that things like murder is ok as long as it done in the name of God.
Obviously that is not true, no true God loving individual with a decent moral conscience would think that, not even close.
So from what I have studied, those parts are not real, they are fictional accounts designed to give examples of what one should not do.

This is why I discount much of what is in the bible, yet I know from my own experiences and studies that there is also much in there that contain Truth. Just because parts are obviously skewed, does not mean the whole text is.
Nothing in life is absolute except IMHO God. Science has shown us that every time we think there is an absolute, we can also find an exception to that rule.
My feeling is that the reason for the flaws and inconsistencies in the bible and other great books is one common denominator, man.
Hope I didn't skirt the question this time.
If I did, then please state the question again using different words so that Incan understand what you are asking better.

Checkout how ignorant Darwin supporters look when they always try to bring religion into the debate about evolution.

You can see they have no other choice even when someone is using Science not religion to argue Evolution.

This video is another example why Blake and others are a waste of time debating they have limited thought patterns in the brain.

Why do you never acknowledge the gray areas? Things are rarely if ever purely black or white, as your questions presuppose, i.e. "all" your thoughts rational, or "all" your thoughts irrational.
I'm not the one that went with "all" thoughts. Justagirl did and you high fived her with a "truer words were never spoken"

it's clear now you are just wanting a win here instead of a discussion.

    smh lol.

If you think I'm only wanting to mock and ridicule you, why are you still talking to me?

Either discuss what's on the table or don't. How far has questioning why it's on the table got you?
That was merely my su ion since we were discussing opinions of a subject that is rather controversial at best.
I grant you that my beliefs and opinions are somewhat controversial too, or better yet, unorthodox, but that does not make me any less of a Christian IMHO.

I was replying to your "tldr" comment. That seemed to me to be a form of ridicule.
I am still talking to you because I am graciously giving you the benefit of the doubt.
However, I did also warn you that ridicule on your part would not come without consequences.
We can be civil, or you can argue with yourself. And arguing with yourself will only backfire upon yourself.
    That was my point.
The better you are able to refrain from mockery and ridicule i. e. tldr, if that indeed was an attempt at ridicule, then the more conducive you will find me and others willing to discuss this with you.
Do you understand where I am coming from, and also why my reply was as such?

Ok, I pulled her post out. You don!t see the profound nature of her post? I certainly do and applauded her for it.
It was no slight to you. Did you take it that way? She used the word "your", but I sincerely doubt she meant you in the singular sense, rather I thought she meant it in the plural sense, which would be more rational IMHO.
Thus she deserved a high five. You should have high fived her too!

I assure you I have no motivation to enter into pissing contests here with you or anyone else.
Why? It makes me look foolish. Those are the consequences of me resorting to ridicule.
    But we've been over this.

Are you trying to bait me into getting into one with you?
If so, you won't succeed. All you will accomplish is debating with yourself, and of making a fool of yourself.

I will however be amused at the attempts, but I'll also cease discussing these things with you.
It is your choice. I will proceed under the proverb of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Blake, do you have anything of a positive nature to say in this discussion?
So far, you mostly just question, and when you do commit yourself to a statement, it appears negative in nature.
No offense meant, but you give the impression of being a rather contentious, unhappy, and lost individual.
So if I am off base here, then by all means add something positive to this discussion.
Surely you have some decent opinions to share. You do not have to agree, but that is different than being disagreeable.
    Do you catch my drift?

Yes, of course, Blake, this whole discussion is based on opinions.
Yours are just as valid as anyone else's here, so, yes, give some opinions, and if you have any of the positive ones, that would be appreciated even more.

my opinion is that a belief in right and wrong does not therefore automatically mean a belief in God.

you'll have to define what a "positive opinion" means.

I'll try to give you some POs, but I'm not sure I have any for you and I'm not sure why any real truth seeker would want them.

Actually, I agree with you that a belief in right or wrong does not therefore automatically mean a belief in God.
That, sir, is the first positive statement I have read from you in this thread!

But I also suspect you have other gems to add. That is the real reason why I continue to discuss all the side ramifications orbiting this subject and how we got sidetracked on all the other related subjects.
I have patiently addressed as many questions as I could even though I do not have all the answers. I do have many educated opinions. But I do think that we eventually have to begin "subtracting" what we think we know in order to get to the root of truth, rather than adding more superfluous substance. That is my su ion and my theory up to this point.

Not sure how that's a positive statement.
It is positive because you leave open for the possibility however remote it might be in your opinion that such a being could actually exist.
You did not state emphatically that He did not.
Rather, you only stated that just because one believes in right or wrong, does not necessarily mean that it must come from a Supreme Deity, or even from believing in such a One.
In other words, the jury is still out.
And that is a healthy skepticism if you ask me.
That same skepticism is what has guided me to what I presently believe now, that God does indeed exist, has always existed, and will always exist.

Not sure what I did, to be perfectly honest.
I was not trying "to school" anyone, least of all Blake.
    I hope he knows that.
I was just trying to understand him.
He has some true gems to share, if we can only get him to do it.
He has a strong enough background to venture forth some great opinions.
He does not have to believe in God to do that.

You schooled him by not being affected by his little hate/fear parade.
