Can you imagine Joe Staley being bullied like that?![]()
Or he/somebody around him was opportunistic and realized this will ultimately result in a settlement that would net him more than he will ever make in football, tbh..

I don't know what else there could be to the story. What mental state? You kidding me? This dude is a pro athlete living the dream millions want. Incognito is a POS, but I don't see any excuse at all for a grown a** man to allow this to happen. Especially one as physically gifted and successful as Martin. Walking out on your team and suffering "a nervous breakdown" is not exactly healthy. Nor is taking abuse when you are fully capable of putting a stop to it.
Honest question: What would you have done.
Im just glad to see you answer a question rather than deflecting for no reason. It's a legit question and I am shocked you are ok with a man allowing himself to be bullied.
Maybe...he probably told his dad (a lawyer) about being bullied and Jackie Chiles' eyes glowed dollar signs.
We'll see Martin doing the rounds on Ellen, The View, etc in a couple weeks
private pyle was the biggest dude in his company and he never stook up for himself. even his bestfriend joker hit him with the soap in the sock. its easy on the outside looking in to say martin should have done more but some people just don't have it in em. martin comes off as non confrontational and icognito took advantage of that.
are you saying pro athletes don't have up mental states? especially football players?
i would have handled the situation similar to you but again, i am trill. martin is a totally different person and i don't expect everyone to handle situations the same way.
That's the story of life, man...just because the world is looking more corporate than primitive it doesn't mean human behavior has changed. You can't let people walk all over you.
That's the part that makes no sense. As soon as the racial stuff started and he had proof he could have gone to a lockerrom full of black men that would have had his back in a fight or just in calling him out in front of everyone. He had the proof, the backing of others on the team I'm sure and yet he just lets this go on until he suffers a mental breakdown in the cafeteria? That literally makes no sense to me.
Bruh - the way he handled it was literally the only way that made no sense. I'm not saying people don't have messed up mental states, but they usually don't take getting on in a racist fashion for 2 years. Especially when there were a plethora of ways to make it stop.
i agree but martin isn't wired like us. there is nothing he can do to change that at this juncture but seek some professional help before he snaps.
The explanation I would give is he tried to brush the racial voicemail message off but kept it in case this day happened (his parents are both lawyers) because he wanted to avoid causing any problems with the team, it continued, and the cafeteria thing happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back. That's beside the point though, if I were in his shoes and got a message like that, I woulda done something unless it was someone I was really good friends with and knew he was just ing with me, and we know that wasn't the case with Incognito and Martin.
how do you know what a person can take and what their tipping point is?
I'm surprised Jim Harbaugh, Andrew Luck, Fleener, Taylor, etc haven't run to Martin's defense yet. They played/coached with the man for his formative football years.
With that mindset he's gonna fail badly in the NFL, but like you said that might just be his mental make-up. At least he has a Stanford education and wealthy/supportive parents to get him through post-NFL life.
Exactly - with all the rotten details that are coming out, this was a prolonged issue spanning two years and there were a string of incidents. Instead of "seeking professional help" he should have either put an end to it himself, or sought the help of those that had power to stop it before it spanned two years.
If he's smart enough to seek professional help, why not do it earlier, or better yet, if you are mentally weak, why not seek out help earlier so you have the courage to step up for yourself before this stuff happens? I mean, maybe it's just something I do not understand and you shouldn't bully the weak, but I have a hard time believing that physically gifted, talented beast is "weak".
And a slam dunk hostile workplace lawsuit worth more than anything you mentioned![]()
That's not the point. The point is you seem to be trying to paint this picture of an educated, supremely talented physical beast is somehow this weakling that didn't have the power to stop himself from getting bullied. Everything else is moot to me. Tipping point or "nervous breakdown" aside, it doesn't make any sense that a person with not only the mental and physical resources to stop whatever he wants, but also the financial resources could allow this to happen for two years.
Yeah, although money was never going to be a serious issue for him in that family. He'll be rich, but like HH said he'll be considered a pariah among the NFL fraternity. Not a big deal when you consider the pay-off, but we already see how he reacts when he's not accepted.
fa sho. he's good no matter what he decides to do from here.
well believe it, fam. weaklings come in all shapes and sizes...don't let their size fool you. the biggest ones are usually the softest, word. as far as your 'why's' i don't know. i'm just speculating like everyone else but given the macho-tough guy culture of professional athletes, it doesn't surprise me that he kept this built up for so long. especially if he's a big softie.
Like HH said, right or wrong, snitching aside (which I think is bs in this case that he would be considered a snitch), you just can't trust a mentally weak guy who would allow himself to be bullied in the trenches. How could you? I wouldn't want this fragile mental guy next to me in a tight game. What happens if they start making fun of him and he has a mental breakdown? If he's not tough enough to stand up to a racist idiot who is extorting him, how will he stand up to someone who is saying he is going to hurt him during a game?
victim blaming aside, how does a person bully, extort and intimidate another person over a 2 year span? you gotta be a real s bag loser to do some like that to a person you know isn't going to fight back.
It's well do ented what a s bag Incognito is, on and off the field. He's indefensible.
Victim blaming - it's a legit question. Quit catching feelings when people point out things that don't make sense. But I agree, you have to be a POS to pick on someone, and an even worse human to continue doing it when you see someone is mentally weak and won't stand up for themselves. Especially when they are your teammate.
