For a player in his mid 30's that TORE his Achilles...
    Unbelievable.

Oh it's Kobe, he will recover fully... A pig flew.
You should understand context before coming downstairs.

    LA radio likes the extension

their rationale "they couldn't afford to bargain and negotiate and wait for the end of the season, or else kobe could have been bitter and teamed up elsewhere just to spite the Lakers"

Kirby and the FO also pretty much closing the coffin on MVPau returning next year. That or indirectly telling him that he's playing for scraps next season tbh.

Put it this way - unless you trade Nash for Rondo, then that 23M in cap space LA has next season drops to 11M because Rondo makes 12M next season. That leaves only 11m to sign Melo & Pau in your plan so unless you think they both take 5-6M you need to go back to the drawing board tbh..That doesn't even factor in Ariza accepting the minimum

Being reported as $48.5 million. Stupid by both sides. At the very least, they should have considered getting around or under $20 million per and have some kind of deferred payments after the two years. I'm not sure if the current CBA still allows that though. In reality though, he should have cut his $30 million in half and play for $15 million per. Super selfish egomaniacal Kobe and super dumb forbrains Lakers front office.
Pretty much spot on, Jam. What the does an extra 10 mil a year mean to Kobe besides just being something to stroke his ego?

Mitch had no choice. Kobe runs that franchise. After whiffing so publicly on Dwight (and it was humiliating to watch a storied franchise beg and crawl) on the shoulders of getting swept and Kobe hurt, they had to ensure at all costs that Kobe stayed.

They didn't have a Duncan they were dealing with they had Kobe. Kobe had leverage and he squeezed the out of them. TBH, I think they got lucky that Kobe didn't make them offer the full max.
    Absolutely correct, DPG

Buddy even turning on Caprisun Man

I feel really bad for the response you are going to get, Buddy. You will realize just how little your main man knows about basketball.
We've already sat aside tax and repeater tax fees...it's all about value for buck now...even if we ditch Pau for Rondo now we will still get Melo....if we let Pau walk we resign him for 5-6 mill a year...we pick up Ariza and keep paying this core we have peanuts....there are no real big name free agents switching teams within the next two years besides Melo and Rondo and those are the guys we're going to target..
It was worse than I thought. Sorry Buddy.

Ya - I can't really blame Mitch & Co. This is a players league and that is highlighted by everything LAL is and ever has been. They had 0 choice - which is sad. They didn't have 0 choice because there were no other options, they had 0 choice because LAL fans (not all, but as a whole) are the worst, most uneducated (in terms of basketball) fans in the business. All that matters is doing right by them and Kobe is their God. There were no other options. The only thing that could have saved them was Kobe and we all know that was not going to happen.

I was being serious though when I said I was shocked Kobe even let them off that easily.

Wait - All I have heard from Laker fan who likes to puff out their chest is Laker fans are different. They don't accept losing. It's le or bust and they have not been sniffing that WCF let alone finals for few years now (and definitely not this year). How can you be le or bust while at the same time supporting this?

Pau will be off the books....Nash will be forced into retirement or waived...everyone Melo will be signed....luxury and repeater tax penalties will apply...we'll be s ing out but making money hand over foot despite the CBA....this was was smart move by Laker FO...

This is a business move first and foremost and a basketball move second. You can't compare this to KG and Duncan, who were both on the decline. KG and Duncan are nowhere near what they were in their prime. Kobe had his best of 17 seasons last year.

Here is something that I can guarantee you that's not going to happen. Pau ain't playing for 5-6 million a year and the Celtics aren't trading their best player for a guy we've been trying to dump for two years now. And why are we throwing 25 mil at a player that's old and hurt?

Phoenix has to love this, since they get Fredo's 2015 first rounder.
dat pick wont be that great and the draft will be weaker. But the Nash trade is actually worse than the kobe extension.

Im with Showtime fan, and Jam. But the real stupidity lies in the Lakers FO getting bent over by Kobe. Kobe is doing what an "alpha" does and is preying on the weak ...our front office has:

    1. Hired Mike Brown to replace Phil ...
    2. Traded a bushel of picks for an aging Nash.
    3. Completed a blockbuster trade involving Denver/Philly and Orlando and finished third when the dust settled ...
    4. Fired Brown and replaced him with Mike D instead of begging Phil ...
    5. Begged Dwight to stay ...
    6. Resign Kobe at a price above market vale (anything over Lebron is crazy at this point ...)
    7. Choose not to tank in a loaded draft class ...

The anic is sinking but the FO is still playing the strings telling us the ship in unsinkable as we continue take on water.

I think i have fulled boarded the tank train ...I was half on before ...

Kobe just being the alpha nothing more nothing less, he eats first ...same as it ever was. We won when he was the best player his mindset wont change and we wont rang. Oh well chances at 17 (who cares about 6) Were slim right now anyway.
