I just need to see this guy get some minutes already. He hasn't played a single game and I don't think it's anything but by design, for whatever reason.

Diaw is great and all, but hypothetically, a 21-28 yr old 6-7 SF who can shoot, dribble, pass and play good perimeter D would be better. And if it was a decision to be made either Diaw or the latter, I'd choose the latter.
That's why you're a message board jerkoff and not a GM.

It's a little weird to sign Pittman while Toros still have Dawson and Zeller. Maybe Dawson will soon sign overseas.
Pittman went to UT right there in Austin. He'd be an attendance draw.

what? they have Luke Zeller again? that dude is gonna ride the bench while Pittman gets good minutes. I don't see how Zeller is still in the league, any league.

I'm sure he'll stay through the showcase at least. Anyway Zeller and now Dawson have three point range so they can both play with Pittman.

Hopefully these moves will help bring some roster stability so the team can actually play together a bit. Only two players have appeared in all 14 games so far. As far as the Spurs are concerned I believe the only Toro they think might fit into their future plans at this point is Kabongo.

The deadline when Thomas contract becomes guaranteed is January 7, 5 pm ET. Spurs will play one game (today) before the deadline.

Regarding Thomas, his previous bad D-League game (scoreless in 9 minutes played) was because of a concussion. Spurs should also be encouraged by how well Kendall Marshall and James Johnson have done since being call up. It may remind them that pleasant surprises can happen but they need first to give Thomas some minutes with Spurs.

The previously talked article from Mark Deeks:
    http://beta.thescore.com/nba/news/398515

If Thomas is cut, the next in line to receive a 10 days contract could very well be Devin Ebanks. Similarly to Thomas, he is now shooting/making way more 3's than in the past. In 15 D-League games played, he is 44/121 (36.4%) from behind the arc.
I would love for the spurs to get rid of joseph or de colo and sign this kid. very long and athletic. he is a 6'8" with a 7' wing span. definitely the type of backup SF we have been looking for. and if he has improved his "J" then that is an added bonus. he is good defensively.

Don't they have to call Thomas back up now? Seems a perfect time to see what he can do in the big leagues now...

Spurs don't play till tomorrow, so even if the Spurs planned on calling Thomas back up, they would wait till after the Toros game tonight so he can get some minutes.

De Colo being assigned is somewhat interesting this time. He has always been send to the Toros for some of their home games. The travel to Austin is easy and it's allowed him to stay in shape.

This time, it's different since he will go to Reno where the D-League has his usual showcase. GMs and FO members of other NBA teams will be in attendance. So, it likely isn't a conditioning stint but a sting to create some interests around De Colo for a potential trade.

I guess pairing them is their idea then but, in a league played a very high pace and with a lot of small ball, it's going to be tough for them defensively.

I get the feeling they are trying to shop de Colo but at the same time they are hoping he will breakthru. If spurs are going to move them I would suspect moving one of them asap, getting long in the year

Wonder if Pittman is staying in shape and improving. Given his size and athleticism he could be a nice tradeable piece or bench big

I don't doubt that. A lot of players just got assigned for the showcase, so other teams might have the same idea.

Unless one or more of the players involved have nonguaranteed contracts that can be dumped in the next few days, there isn't a huge incentive to get small deals done so quickly.

We'll find out today at 5:30 on YouTube. The game will also be shown on NBAtv tomorrow at 11AM.

Zeller and Thomas start, Pittman and Dawson off the bench.

Pittman credited with four blocks in three minutes. Probably got one of Dawson's.
