NBA rules kept the injury-plagued Lakers from playing 4-on-5 against the Cavs

The Los Angeles Lakers barely have enough players to field a team right now. With Jodie Meeks, Jordan Hill, Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant and Xavier Henry injured, along with Steve Nash getting a planned rest, coach Mike D’Antoni had just eight players at his disposal Wednesday night in Cleveland. There was enough empty space on the bench in the third quarter that center Chris Kaman could stretch out and take a quick power nap.
To make matters worse for the Lakers, Nick Young twisted his ankle and Jordan Farmar injured his left calf, and both needed to leave the game. Chris Kaman fouled out with 8:29 left in the fourth quarter, leaving the Lakers with 5 players.
Robert Sacre picked up his sixth foul with 3:31 left in the game, causing mass confusion. NBA rules state that a team cannot have fewer than five players, so Sacre was allowed to continue playing with 6 fouls.
The Lakers went on to beat the Cavs, 119-108, thanks to a triple-double from Steve Blake, who played with a ruptured eardrum.

kudos on pulling out of your rear ends though

    what a regret Sacre didn't receive a 7th foul, or 8th foul

so maybe some teams will try to exploit this loophole of law... Just register 8 players for a game (5 starters + 3 scrubs) and asked each scrub to pick up 6 fouls and get fouled out before the 4th quarter, so your starting five will be free to play hack-a-someone (DH or DeMonkey Jordan, for example) as much as they want.

I so wanted to see Sacre with 7+ fouls in the box score.

Hacking someone with a 6+ foul player is dumb, though, because you give them 2 FTs for Howard plus the technical FT...if they hit 2 or 3 you lose bad.
