This old guy is a grade A though. No doubt he said something pretty bad. Just take away his season tickets and suspend Smart for 5ish games. Problem solved.
I'm not necessarily advocating athletes getting a free pass to beat up fans, but i'm all for fans facing consequences for what they say to athletes. Sportsmanship only exists on the court between the compe ors. Fan heckling is one thing, but when it crosses that line, he ought to be ready to fight. There's no way to really know what he said, but i'm guessing the common " you suck" isn't going to piss off Marcus Smart that much. Considering it's an old white guy in Texas, i'm guessing he said something racist, and if so he deserves to get his ass beat and be banned for life from all NCAA events.

Smart still needs to hold his emotions in check. He will hear much worse said to him when he gets to the NBA and goes to Utah or OKC.
That may be true. But I can't really fault an adolescent for reacting the way he did to a grown man in the heat of the moment, especially if it's true about what that fan said to him.
yeah, the bigger embarrassment is the old white guy. He should be punished to the full extent because he clearly said something way out of line. Smart was lying there a whole row in front of him and walked all the way up to him for some reason. You can even read his lips when he says "Sorry about that". Still Smart should and will have a fairly lengthy suspension after the Palace incident but his NBA stock shouldn't necessarily drop because of it.

It won't affect Smart's NBA outlook.
What NBA scouts saw was Smart chasing down that break and contesting it at the rim.
That is unfortunate all the way around ...

I think overall this class is overrated.
I think this is more like the Mashburn class with Randle's game even a bit reminiscent of Jamal though Mash was a better shooter.
Lots of good payers with a few ASG appearances ...but I don't see a Durant/Lebron type in the bunch unless Wiggins takes a HUGE leap.
And I love Parker's game ...
But the best case is a Paul George type (wiggins) and MAYBE a poor man's Pierce type career for Parker, if things break right. I just don't see a transcendant player in this draft.
