Bruce easily. Dirtier, bigger, smarter, more annoying, tries to injure you, etc. Bowen was the best perimeter defender of the 2000s imo

Bowen is the more solid fundamentally ... also dirty willing to do whatever to win. He also by the end of his career Bowen was the better shooter which helps him stay on the floor in more line-ups.
Tony is more athletic and can "compete" (jump with keep pace with players) that may have been a struggle for Bruce, who still did a fine job despite not having those gifts.

Funny this question comes up some on here thought he was overrated defensively. Now he is being compared to one of the best defenders since: Pistons Rodman, Scottie and Coop.

A player who can inflict injuries and get away with it is a very good defender.

Also true. Allen takes some dumb fouls ... this last game is not the first or the last time we see this.

Tony Allen but he fouls constantly...seriously. He just puts his hands all over Durant.

Bowen just stayed in front of people. Didn't play dirty like Allen does.

Bowen didn't play dirty? You're trolling, right?

lol even Spurs fans have to admit Bowen played dirty; not every night, but you can't blame Ray Allen for wanting a piece of him

Doesnt take anything away from Bruce though, still a fantastic defender

of course he did, he also was permitted to maul opposing players, just like every other great defender..

It's pretty funny how the NBA allows you to get away with murder if you have a "defensive reputation"..Ron Artest with the Lakers was barely able to move, but he was able to hack and grab opposing players without getting called for it, just like Bowen..

Tony Allen receives the same privilege nowadays, where virtually every other defender in the league would not be able to play physically against KD without getting called..

Bruce by far. He knew when to stop defending. Sometimes the best defense is to take Tony off the floor. I cannot believe he was even on the floor with 1.7 seconds left, knowing what a ing idiot he is.

Allen may contribute more at the offensive end but as a defender Bruce Bowen belonged in a class of his own.

I'm gonna stick with Bowen but I don't think Bowen ever locked up Kobe for 3 straight playoff games. If Tony can do the work he did last two games on KD and add that to his work in 2008 on Kobe (but he had lots of help like Posey etc) a case can be made for Allen.
