No,no. The contract do stipulate conduct in public places. They don't regulate anything with regards to private life, especially without conviction of a crime. This is an entirely different thing and incredible monumental from a policing state.
I don't believe to be the case. The Uniform Player Contract stipulates, among other things:

"The Player agrees that he will not, without the written consent of the Team, engage in any activity that a reasonable person would recognize as involving or exposing the participant to a substantial risk of bodily injury including, but not limited to: (i) sky-diving, hang gliding, snow skiing, rock or mountain climbing (as distinguished from hiking), rappelling, and bungee jumping; (ii) any fighting, boxing, or wrestling; (iii) driving or riding on a motorcycle or moped; (iv) riding in or on any motorized vehicle in any kind of race or racing contest; (v) operating an aircraft of any kind; (vi) engaging in any other activity excluded or prohibited by or under any insurance policy which the Team procures against the injury, illness or disability to or of the Player, or death of the Player, for which the Player has received written notice from the Team prior to the execution of this Contract..."

IIRC, Monta Ellis got a 30 game suspension for a moped accident due to breaking that rule.

Called it tbh. People are talking about forcing him to sell isn't going to happen easily. It's a long dark road the league quite honestly wants to avoid.

At at the end of the day, Sterling is going to continue making profits from his black players lol. Balls on your court Clipper fans and players.
He's going to sell, tbh.... the NBA has the votes to get him out, there's no way they can allow him to stay and no way for someone who is banned for life to own a team....

I know that is in there, that's why I said it's explicitly laid out (such as motorcycles). Where does it say anything about your private life and being illegally recorded for what could be deemed offensive?

Theres been talks about his wife or Son In Law taking over the franchise, not sure how that's going to play out but I think that's plausible. They're already spinning this in his wife's favor making her appear "wholesome" but that face says otherwise

The NBA wants the franchise to be completely out of the family's hands, according to Woj....

Do we know he was illegally recorded? Serious question. I've heard the tape came from a lawsuit, but have not heard confirmation. Haven't heard Sterling lawyers mention anything about that either (which I find strange).

I'm actually much more positive that the league has broad powers to sanction and even terminate players if they deem they diminish the league brand. This case was different because it was an actual owner.

    • This entire episode is framed within the Clippers’ change of standing in the NBA, which seemed to both paint over Sterling’s racist past and draw more attention to this latest story. From Billy Witz of the New York Times:

It was that status, as a cartoonish organization operating in the shadow of the Lakers, that left so few taking the Clippers seriously. But in recent years, their image — and Sterling’s — has begun to change. In the last three seasons, the Clippers have been a winning team — something that had happened just twice since Sterling purchased the team 33 years ago — and a marketable one, too.

Last summer, the Clippers hired Doc Rivers, one of the most respected coaches in the league. At the end of his introductory news conference, he was asked one final question. Having played for the Clippers in the early 1990s, was he uncomfortable working for a team still owned by Sterling?

“It’s different now,” Rivers said with a smile.

Well, we just disagree on the possible ramifications. You seem to think it's no big deal to police, to this level, a report stemming from TMZ of all places about something (not a crime mind you) that was a privately held opinion. The issues isn't that as much as what defines moral and offensive? Again, it's all about money. You can essentially say what you want, even if its recorded as long as it doesn't hurt the bottom line. We will see what happens now the next time someone like Kobe yells " g*t" and gets caught. Will a little fine and apology do?

I agree with you that whenever the Commish hands out penalties, some people will feel it's not enough, and some people will feel he's gone too far.

Unfortunately, that's just what happens in the court of public opinion. Stern suffered the same problem.

More proof that Sterling isn't keeping the team:

When the owners vote him out, he doesn't have a choice because the franchise will now belong to the NBA....

That's not at all what I am saying though. I don't think the punishment it too harsh at all. I am talking about the process to arrive at the results. With this ruling, it now opens up a massive grey area from a legal perspective. These actions, these methods (tape recording from a side ho, then TMZ ) & the hammer are the issue.

This is not about putting blame "on the players". If anything this ruling, coverage and discussion has illustrated that the blame (rightly so) has been placed all on Sterling. He just got fined, suspended and booted from the league despite the fact it was a sketchy recording. Doesn't mean he shouldn't go, just put that in perspective.

But for the same reason SAS and you just said you want that chapter of the NAACP run out of town, these players and coaches that knew and still chose to make themselves money and grow this mans wallet, they have blame. It's no different than you being mad at the NAACP.
