I know kids getting into fights is nothing new, but my son just told me about a fight after lunch today.

I guess one kid called another kid 'gay' and they got into a fist fight and the end result is one kid getting his nose broken.

    These were 11 year olds.

That is so sad. My daughter is 12 1/2 and her uncle (my ex-husband's brother) is gay. She says is doesn't bother her when the kids at school joke around and make lighthearted gay jokes, but she does get really offended when they make it personal and call someone in particular " " or something along those lines. She always tells them about her uncle and that she loves him very much and asks them to stop talking about people that way.
It breaks my heart that people can't be more tolerant in this world. I am not saying they have to agree with it. They can even believe it's a sin if they wish. I just wish that we as humans beings didn't feel compelled to judge a behavior that should be left to God to decide.
Children especially shouldn't have to be caught up in this debate.

    big deal

boys at that age are evil little s with no social skills.

the fight could have as easily been over calling "poopbreath" or "monkeyface" or no name calling at all...when two juvenile testosterone engorged male brains decide its time to find out where they are in the pecking order of the herd is gonna happen.

this more than likely wasn't gay bashing or actually have anything to do with the kid being effeminate...

three in elementary school that stand out...I didn't start any of them but I finished them all. One bad one in the fifth grade against 2 sixth graders...it had been building up for weeks...one tripped me and the other kicked me in the head when I went to my knees and tore my jeans (rasberrys on both knees and elbows)...I was absolutely enraged...under school rules today I probably would have been expelled and possibly sent to Juvenile...I knocked one out (breaking his nose and blacking both eyes) and was sitting on the other ones chest pounding his head against the asphalt when a teacher pulled me off of him...

CC, I'm gonna have to disagree with ya here. I think that too many parents are of the "Boys will be boys" thinking, which I have never understood. Yeah, my boys constantly wrestle with one another, but I can't even begin to tell you how much trouble they would be in if they ended up breaking someone's nose.

I don't tolerate that at all.

I understand completely s y, and I tried to teach my son to talk his way out of stuff or walk away instead of fighting and to the best of my knowledge he never got in one fight...

but I may be showing my age here...it was just a different time...I had already talked to my parents about these guys...(it really didn't have anything to do with me...one of them had a crush on my older sister in his class and she had dissed him...so he wanted to kick my ass to impress her..typical juvenile boy logic)...dad had already told me to try to avoid a fight but if it happened it was OK with him for me to defend myself...and I was trying to walk away from the confrontation when they tripped and kicked me...

it was actually pretty scary...I have never been that enraged again...ever hear the expression "seeing red"?...I literally was...I was a tough little that had been working on a ranch all my life and I just exploded on those big guys...I was left handed and the guy that kicked me didn't realize it...I jumped up and went for him...faked with my right and he dropped his right...and I hit him three times before he knew what was going on...(cut the out of my knuckles on his teeth)...and he dropped like a turd from a tall horse...turned around and tackled the other one and am just lucky that teacher pulled me off of him...

like I said...it was just a different time...I would have probably ended up in jail today...but back then we just all had to go to the principals office...get our ass chewed out and then shake hands when it was over...

No, I get what you're saying, CC. And I'm all for defending yourself. I just hope that it doesn't have to come down to fighting, especially these days, because who know what kids have on them. Obviously, some don't think twice about bringing guns to school.

    yeah...

I had a football coach / sadist asshole that had a special palm frond all laquered with holes drilled in it and a special leather hand grip that was his pride and joy...

my dad had beat the out of me all my life and the only way to really win against those guys was passive resistance...don't give them the pleasure of seeing you flinch or cry out...just take it and don't react no matter how much it hurt...

drove that ing coach crazy...I would walk out of there with purple/black welts standing up 1/4" on my ass and thighs and act like I didn't even feel it...you could even see the holes in the paddle on the bruises...

I remember getting a call about my son for fighting. So when I got home I confronted him and asked him why. He just said that they were picking on Spencer and tossing him around. He is my friend and I had to stand up for him. I couldn't get mad at him at all. I was actually happy that he stuck up for his friend.

Oh boy do I remember. This one teacher would give you a choice. Detention or the paddle. The paddle was quick and easy but damn it it hurt.

That mother er was my Trig teacher in 8th grade...(I did all the enriched/accelerated courses)...they had a "Sadie Hawkins Day" at school where girls could ask guys to carry their books to the next class...there was an obnoxious little that sat right behind me named Mary Ellen something or other...she had a huge crush on me and showed it by constantly kicking me in the butt all year...I despised her...so naturally she asked me to carry her books and I politely declined. This asshole coach gets involved and demanded I carry her books. I said no. He demanded again that I carry her books and I said no. (lookin up at this big sonofa )...so he says that he is gonna give me licks till I say yes...and I still said no...

Now in football and basketball practice you had to drop your pants to get licks but he obviously couldn't do that there so i figured it was no big deal...i was looking at the clock trying to figure out how to stall till the bell but there was too damn much time...

anyway...I go up there and assume the position and he winds up and whacks me...I don't even flinch...he asks me if I am gonna carry her books now and I say no...we go through this like 5 times...I am just bent over gritting my teeth and looking at the clock and he is getting madder and madder...by the 6th swing this mother er is obviously fantasizing that it is the bottom of the ninth with two outs and he is swinging for the fences...he was literally lifting me off the ground...I think it was 8 or 9 licks before the bell rang...I honestly lost count...the class was totally freaked out and the coach was breathing heavy and sweating...very bad scene...

When the bell rang I looked back over my shoulder and said.."can I go now coach?"...LMAO...but damn...I could barely walk for two weeks...

Why am I envisioning the scene from Animal House....

"Thank you, sir! May I have another?"

That dude was a sadist. I never got swatted. I just used to get detention all the time for chewing gum in class.

BTW...ironically, that guy ended up being a high school principal...I always wanted to drop into his office and give him lmao...remember the "stories" link I gave you to the ezboard site? This was the same football coach that put me in the hospital for 2 months for getting overpowered on a block in practice...

you don't get it...it was completely different than it is these days...you just didn't sue teachers and school districts because it just wasn't the right thing to do...and in my opinion still isn't...I admit that that mother er was a sadistic asshole but the bruises went away and I lived through it...and was stronger and more self confident from the experience...I was a ing HERO in my trig class...lmao
