Today is a big day for Spurs fans, as the Spurs will take home their 5th championship tonight, with a specific opportunity like tonight not having occurred since 2005: the Spurs with an opportunity to win the le on their home floor. Game 7 of the Pistons series in 2005 was the last time this exact opportunity presented itself and happened. The Spurs need to play off the home crowd momentum and not let up. It's unbelievable that a trio of NBA teammates are in two Finals series together 11 years apart with the same team and coach. We have grown up with this team. Here we are, watching Pop, Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker, 11 years later after their first, still playing for a championship together.

The 80's Lakers didn't do this. The 80's Celtics didn't do this. Nor did the 90's Bulls or the Kobe/Shaq Lakers. This longevity has never been seen in NBA history and I guarantee you this level of sustained excellence will never happen again after the Pop/Duncan/Parker/Ginobili era has finished. This team and franchise are gaining worldwide respect.

At the same time, the Spurs have been the favorites all along. They were the favorites in the OKC series. Kevin Durant was the MVP of the regular season but has proven to be a fluke as far as the postseason goes. Kevin Durant, great player yes, but he'll never join the ranks of Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, and Duncan. Kevin Durant will be in the same tier as Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, a ranking which will eventually include LeBron. LeBron will never be a Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, or Duncan. LeBron is the Iverson/McGrady/Carter of this era.

Kawhi Leonard and Boris Diaw are better players than LeBron. Diaw is the MVP of the West Finals. The Spurs are just doing what they're supposed to do. There should be no big celebrations after the Spurs win the championship. Spurs fans should not be driving down Commerce. This is just another day at the office for the Spurs. Nothing personal against Miami, but they're not that good. They are pretty much the 2004 Timberwolves. No big shockers, no big surprises.

The Spurs recovered from 0.4 by winning the le in 2005. They recovered from that Manu foul on Dirk in Game 7 in 2006 by winning the le in 2007. And now, they recover from Game 6/28 seconds tonight.

This could be their 9th championship when you count 2004, 2006, and 2013 being given away and in 2008 when the refs didn't call Fisher's foul on Brent Barry in the WCF's Game 4.

They should have been, to any logical, intelligent person who actually watches basketball games instead of formulating their opinions based on the outcome of the Finals and ESPN's cookie-cutter takes. The Spurs are the better team. They were last year too.

As for this year specifically, the Spurs have been blowing everyone out for 3 months except when they were rusty in the first round after coasting when they locked up the top seed.

Of course, you're gonna get pummeled mercilessly if the Spurs don't win tonight.
