Let's also not forget that the winner of the group has a cakewalk to the elite 8 while the runner up has a very tough game in the round of 16, hence more reason for the US & Germany to play hard.

I think at least Loew and Klinsmann are talking behind the scenes if not Obama and Merkel.

"We both advance with a draw, so let's play a good game and keep to our strategy"

Both will surely go all-out to make the fans' money worth it but they're still drawing. The US advancing is good for the sport and for the World Cup, compared to Ghana and Portugal. The potential US audience that it will draw is a big motivation.
Greaaat, two hours of keep away from both teams in a 0-0 draw

I hope for a 5-5 draw tbh so it'd look like an all-star game.

The US is advancing, even with a loss. Portugal will either tie or beat the africans, hence pushing the US through.
I think Ghana will kick Portugal's ass.

Ghana's defense is very suspect. Portugal will score 2 or more against them.

It's highly unlikely Germany will get eliminated with a loss. They have huge differential over both Portugal and Ghana. They can lose and will still get in.

I predict a GHA-POR draw. Ghana's defense is very suspect but Portugal's offense is just Cristiano. I think they can put the cuffs on one guy, unlike that it Bradley

Portugal's defense may be worse and Ghana handle's the climate better. I would be shocked if Portugal wins.

What's to say that they're not planning it? It's conspiracy but cmon don't act like it's a bad thing to see Germany and the United States advance

What about US vs. Germany? I feel like even if we lose by a goal, we should be fine.

The U.S. should have gotten 3 points against this Portugal team. They pretty much gave Portugal this draw which is unfortunate because Portugal looks awful overall.

I would like Ghana over the USA, but the USA's playing style 'long passes on the ground' reminds me of the kind of football United would play in Ferguson's final season. Very well coached and likeable players, except for Dempsey. Screw Dempsey.

As I said earlier in this thread, we can probably lose but just don't get killed by Germany. If we lose by a goal, the optimal strategy is for Portugal to beat Ghana.

too bad Germany are pissed off. Not a good timing to face them IMO

Ghana still has a chance, although its probably around 25% chance, but if they take care of business vs. Portugal, it could be in the cards

I just worry that Ghana could really run wild on this Portugal team especially if in this climate where they will be better conditioned compared to Portugal. There's plenty of reason than Ghana almost beat Germany yesterday. To me the U.S. looked much better today compared to the first game where Ghana controlled most of the attack.

Its a good result for both team but no way you to 30 players look if you are alone miss your shot. Germany cannot offer luxury to take any risk. Again if it's a tie with 15 min remaining yes both team will stand bye but you don't refuse to play during 90 min.

No doubt. I never for one second thought the US wasn't winning today, even when it was 1-0. You can see that in this thread. Portugal got lucky due to Bradley's stupidity & the refs gifting Portugal 5 mins of extra time to give soccer's golden boy every opportunity to make a play

Portgual's offense looks atrocious. They were gifted a goal in this match and the US fell asleep at the end.

Well if the US drop their game against Germany will we have any choice? It will come down to goal differences
