Awesome news and so happy Pop will be around during the next phase, although brief, of Spurs basketball. He'll hopefully have found his next protege by that time period too.

Maybe winning his 5th le rejuvenated him ,either way nothing wrong with keeping the old guy around as long as possible
Wow, didn't see that coming. Awesome news.![]()
In order to pass Phil in all time win% for a coach, Pop would have to average 63 wins over the next 5 years. Likely unattainable.
He's probably thinking that we have a pretty damn good young core that's going to be compe ive for years to come, and wants to be part of that.
Sure, but Phil is a giant , and an incredibly overrated coach.
Agreed. But as I pointed out, he can still pass him in all-time wins. Would only need to average 47 wins over the next 4 years...which is pretty likely IMO.
Holt and Buford must have caught him on a few glasses of wine to get him to sign![]()
Not 6, not 7, not 8...
I hope this is appealing for TD to stay longer too!![]()
holy the Spurs are the best franchise in sports and it aint even close.
Pop is hands down a better coach than Phil. Winning percentage is negligible.
I will listen to this once again in celebration
Now if fa's have any doubt about the big 3 sticking around atleast they don't have to worry about pop going anywhere
Best news of the offseason. Spurs prollu become a better FA destination once the Big Three are gone.
I'm a little surprised. Always thought Pop would take over as president of basketball operations full time in a year or two especially since the league has been going through a massive changing of the guard. Pop is already the oldest coach in the NBA and most coaches are in their 40s and 50s. Teams are even going younger, hiring players right after they retire or even hiring players younger than a lot of NBA players (Boston).
But this is good news, Pop is one of best coaches in all of sports history. No better person to smooth the transition when Duncan retires and no better person to keep developing Leonard.
The Golden Era has just been extended at least 4 years.
