Shore leave is the leave that professional sailors get to spend on dry land. It is also known as "liberty" within the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

At 4 o'clock on all Naval vessels a boatswain mate will get on the horn and....LIBERTY CALL LIBERTY CALL. Guys actually standing in a line waiting. I never once heard.....shore leave....used. Leave...in the navy means something different from liberty. You can be gone for weeks on leave, liberty is over night.

The point........for someone to call liberty shore leave tells me they have no idea what they are talking about. Something you constantly prove. My dad was in the Navy, his dad was in the Navy, I was in the Navy, at no time have I ever heard anyone say....shore leave. That is a term that nobody uses, the reason being it is a bit confusing, are you going on leave? Which is different than liberty.
