Poland asks US to buy apples banned by Russia
    http://rt.com/business/179332-poland-us-import-apples/

Poland has asked the US to purchase the country's apples after Moscow banned all food imports from the EU, the US, and other countries who imposed sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

Prior to the full embargo on food exports from the West, Russia’s agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of practically all fruits and vegetables from Poland, citing a breach of food safety standards.

Ecuador doesn’t need anybody’s permission to export agricultural products to Russia, which now has a big gap that needs to be filled after it banned supplies from a number of western countries, said President Rafael Correa.

“I want to immediately say that we don’t need to get anybody’s permission to sell products to friendly countries: as far as we know Latin America isn’t a part of the European Union,” as RIA cites Correa’s Tuesday comments to the Andes press agency.

His comments come a day after the Financial Times said the EU was going to persuade Latin American countries not to replace its agricultural exports to Russia.

Greek farmers say the Russian food embargo has already dealt a devastating blow to the country's agricultural economy, leaving at least 3.5 million kilogrammes of peaches rotting in refrigerated trucks after being turned back at the Russian border.

"There are around 3.5 million kilos of peaches currently rotting in trucks, and at the height of the summer another 3.5 million kilos have yet to be harvested," the Guardian quotes Apostolos Keranis head of the Federation of Greek truckers. "We're talking about huge, huge damage."

Russia buys more than 60 percent of Greek peach exports, and almost 90 percent of strawberries, says Christos Yannakakis, the president of Greece's largest regional association of growers and cooperatives.

Approximately a tenth of European agricultural exports go to Russia, which is worth around €11 billion a year, according to European Commission data.

oops apparently Europe is surprised Putin meant business

Like I pointed out elsewhere, These sanctions will not hurt Russia. If anyone bothered to check, Russia is pretty self sufficient, and buys imported items that are more of a luxury than necessity.

They already are hurting due to the minor sanctions.

Russia is undeniably NOT self sufficient, unless starvation sufficient.
If Russia is what you claim, go all in and invest in Russian companies.
Oh snap, they don't need the rest of the world for anything, they are self sufficient.
Just what the did you read to give you this idea?

    Link please?

I guess it depends on what one considers "hurt."

The EU, US, and other nations playing this sanction game will suffer more than Russia will.

As for a link? I prefer to let the future's history prove me right than a link war that has no meaning or resolve.

We can be sure the oligarchs will buy, with their pocket change, all the peaches, etc they want from the black market for banned imports.

    .
    No.

    No they won't.
You hear about the EU hurting because they will actually display the numbers for investors and such.
They have to give some semblance of reality out.
The Russians say what they deem in the best interest of who is in power.

When Boutons starts investing in Russia, instead of US companies, then we will know its safe.

    Rosneft Calls for State Aid

Russia's largest oil company is seeking 1.5 trillion rubles ($42 billion) in aid from the government to weather Western sanctions, the Vedomosti daily newspaper reported on Thursday. The chief executive of state-controlled Rosneft, ROSN.MZ -0.57% Igor Sechin, has asked the Kremlin to authorize a payment from the National Wellbeing Fund—used to plug deficits in the pension system—to buy Rosneft bonds, according to the paper.
It cited a letter from Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to government officials who were asked to analyze the idea. The paper quoted an unnamed official who said that the plan was unlikely to get support.

Again with the say it to his face... This is not MMA clowning.

The Ukrainians are saying it to his face right now.
And luckily for ALL parties involved Putin has backed down.
Russia knows the noose will tighten if they give E. Ukraine a full go.
Russians finding store shelves empty again for years will not be a pleasant experience.
When they can't afford Vodka and are reduced to drinking Aftershave again, it's not going to be pleasant after the hurt is applied over a long period.

You think this is some sort of sprint... it will become a Marathon that Russians have not trained for. It's all fun right now. Just give it time if they make the wrong move. Prolonged suffering is something different. Putin understands this. Will he be ready to put his people through this yet again.
