A player who pads steals by constantly gambling in the passing lanes but can't legitimately guard anyone is a liability.... not saying Manu is that type of player, but no, getting a lot of steals does not necessarily eliminate you from liability status....
Its not like he's A.I he gambles and often comes up with steals and deflections that lead to turnovers. He has been particularly good, over the course of his career, of coming up with crucial defensive plays late in games.

He isn't great defensively anymore but was far from a liability this postseason.

I'll take Kawhi. Manu was really good in these playoffs, but Kawhi was the FInals MVP for a reason, against the best player on the planet, and didn't choke last year's Finals like a certain Argentine.
Its not like Ginobili completely stunk up the '13 finals. His game 5 was astounding (35 years old, 30 pts, 10 assists) and showed up in game 7 with 18pts, and 5 assists.

Kawhi did miss a free throw and also missed a board late in game 6. Its really surprising how people handle Kawhi with kid gloves.

Both played very well this postseason but Ginobili was probably better this postseason.

Probably has something to do with the fact that he actually is a kid.

I am gonna go with Manu as Playoffs MVP if there is sucha thing, which he also was in 2005 and Tim Duncan was in 2007.
Manu only dissapeared against Portland which was by far our easiest series, but was the best player against Dallas which was the hardest.
Leonard was also pretty consistent, but given that Manu took off a couple of nights against Portland (again the easiest matchup) Leonards wasnt also very sharp in some games against OKC and Miami.

The are you laughing at? was close so is only reasonable for the poll to be close too. , didn't you start the thread? Why would you start it if you don't think it's a close argument?

manu didn't drop 30 in that game 5. he wasn't even our leading scorer in that game (it was Parker). although to be fair that was Manu's game, but at least get the facts straight. he scored 24. also, being 35 years old isn't a stat. well, it technically is, but its not a basketball stat

I disagreed with him that Kawhi was the 2nd best Spur in these playoffs in another thread (albeit I had Kawhi at #3, and it was certainly close)...

Apparently, I was "doing a disservice" to Leonard by disagreeing

These threads never go anywhere anyways... something you learn over time here is that ST is hardly representative of the overall Spurs fanbase...

My mistake, it was 24. 35 year old SG scoring 24 pts and 10 assists in the Fnals is still pretty impressive.

finals mvp is a dumb award because conference imbalance makes it so that the "real" finals are the conference finals or even before. In the odd year that isnt true, still the award should be for the whole playoffs because every series counts. In that case, theres no question neither tony, manu or kawhi deserved it because its always tim that carries the frontcourt and thats what wins ball games. Its quite different to win it as the guy who was the best player night in and night out, and it kind of sucks that timmy doesnt have those 2 on his resume when he was the guy making the most important plays throughout the run.

furthermore, think of it this way- who had a better playoffs manu 05, tony 07, or leonard 14? Leonard had a great finals but he really only had 3 great games and was uncharacteristically hot from 3. Its easy to forget that dallas took us to 7 in large part because he was lost on both ends for a large part of the series. bottomline having the finals mvp doesnt automatically make a player the teams best player.

Kawhi is a kid and in that sense he has great potential. But I think people are crazy if they think this team will be able to contend without tim and manu. Replacing them is practically impossible, unless leonard is going to make pull up 3s regularly which I dont think is a realistic expectation.

Manu had a better overall playoffs. All the big games in the playoffs, the game 1s and game5s, manu made big plays. his series against portland was poor stats wise he barely played against them, but when the spurs went down to the mavs and faced their biggest threats okc and miami he was great, on a broken leg to boot. Leonard had an amazing 3 games in the finals and made big plays vs okc, was very good against a harmless portland team, but struggled quite a bit against dallas (almost had as many TO against dallas as in the other 3 rounds, 13 to 16).

    Put it like this ;

If we lost Manu before playoffs, are we champions now? If we lost Kawhi before playoffs, are we champions now?

I think the chance of us winning without Manu is inferior to that of Kawhi

If Kawhi plays well : he does good on defense and does things in the motion of offense

If Manu plays well : he passed well, penetrated well, envolved his teammates well, etc etc etc

Manu just carries that much more weight in the team.. so if he plays OK he still did way more things than a 10/10 Kawhi performance

Ginobili redeemed himself, could not have done more. He was definitely playing at his ceiling. And he had a broken leg....but so what.

Kawhi is emerging and who knows what his ceiling might be

These threads are funny. Remind me of 2nd grade conversations like who would win a fight between Batman and Superman? Gotta love humanity, though.

Manu is better by nature. The guy is just a top (insert number) player who makes plays and carries immense weight on his shoulder

If we don't have Manu, we are not champions. If we don't have Kawhi, I give us a better chance..
I would disagree with that at this stage... I think we needed both, alongside Tim, Tiago, and a couple outliers like Diaw, Mills and Danny...

We're fortunate enough that we had the right pieces and everybody was clicking.

    I think it went:

    Duncan >> Kawhi > Ginobili > Parker

Kawhi gets the edge because even though Ginobili probably outplayed him a bit on a minute-by-minute basis, he played 150 more minutes than Ginobili. Ginobili over Parker since Parker was pretty mediocre by his standards even though he had some good games sprinkled in there.

Manu fans now jealous that Leonard is getting more attention. Next it will be:

"How come Leonard doesn't pass the ball to Manu?"
    "Leonard hero balling again."
    "Leonard is a choker."

according to Manu s, that's not enough to overpass manu in the all time list...
