I guess but who would be more likely to recommend someone?
Dunno how close Pop or RC is with SDSU's coach.

I made a thread for Davis in the Think Tank, if anyone cares to use it.

Probably a Kawhi recommendation. Maybe he'll earn a spot.
Kawhi's recommendations can't be any worse than Boylen's, tbh.

Could have just been a scout, but Davis only played one season there.

    huh... weird.

    baynes
The Spurs extended a qualifying offer to Baynes. Unless he decides to play overseas next year for more $, or is offered more than $1.1M (Spurs QO) by an NBA team, the Spurs can sit and wait on him until the "market" moves.

If you guys have time to watch an entire ball game, Josh Davis posts 10 points and 14 boards this game against Kansas Jayhawks with Wiggins and Embiid

For those that are interested, I’ve watched all of his games at SDSU and here is a scouting report on Josh Davis.
First, love the fact that between him and Kawhi are waging the honorable war of keeping the corn rows relevant.
    Pros:

    1. JD is very active around the rim. He and Kawhi both have very good basketball instincts and know where the ball is at all times. Per game, he usually gets about 3-4 rebounds that most people would probably never get just because he’s usually at the right place and the right angle to steal a rebound from a better positioned player.
    2. He too has long arms and plays good defense. Kawhi was more evolved as a defender coming out of college, but JD definitely has the tools to be a very good NBA defender.
    3. He does not turn the ball over like Kawhi and usually makes good decisions.
    4. Like what the Spurs look for, JD has no ego issues. Above all, JD is a very likeable guy and is very humble. If he gets time with the Spurs, you’ll find that he will quickly become one of your favorite players. You can’t help but to root for him.

    Cons:

    1. His offense is non- existent and doesn’t have an outside shot. His form is awkward and he shoots a very low FT% (around 50%). He gets points from put backs and lay-ups.
    2. Him and Kawhi are victims of ticky-tack fouls that when you look at on replay, it is pretty evident that they did not commit fouls. This issue happens because they are so active on the boards and playing defense.

In summary, despite his offensive flaws, he does a lot of the intangibles that don’t show up on score boards correct. There is no way SDSU makes the sweet 16 without JD this last year. He was never such an offensive liability that SDSU had to pull him out for long stretches because he couldn’t score. Quite opposite, they kept him in because he gave SDSU 2nd,3rd, and 4th chances to score. Having the shot clock reset 2-3 times because of offensive rebounds is a demoralizer for the other team.
If you watched Charlotte’s summer league games. He clearly outplayed their lottery pick Noah Vonleh in the post. In one of the games, he was so active and dominant in the post that when he fouled out from a ticky-tack call, their GM stood up, clapped, and patted JD on the back while he walked back to the bench. The GM was very happy with his effort.
I know at the NBA level, JD is a project, but I really hope that he succeeds.

Thanks for the scouting report. I imagine he'll be a Toro for this year at least. If he can even get a Malcolm Thomas--level jumper, he may have a chance to make the Spurs in 2015. They should have at least one spot open for a min free agent.

Hate to say this, but if you can't do better than 50% at the free throw line, you probably won't make it on the Spurs, and arguably not in the NBA. A few guys that have elite skills in other areas, maybe, but given the Hack-a-whoever, it's a real liability, especially in the playoffs.

    Oh wow, just saw this.

I follow SDSU a little. Josh Davis was a BEAST on the boards and on D. He doesn't have an offensive game (at all), but he's a juggernaut otherwise. I'm surprised he wasn't picked up by some other team.

Unfortunately our roster is nearly full and there's a compe ion between Baynes, JaMychal Green, and Bryce Cotton for the 15th roster spot. There's no way Josh Davis is going to beat out all 3 of those guys, though I do believe Baynes will sign elsewhere eventually.

I think Baynes is still penciled in for the 15th spot.

The Toros can allocate up to three players from the Spurs training camp, and I believe they still have the rights to Green. I wouldn't be surprised if Davis, Cotton and Warrick turn out to be those allocations.

Here we go again. Unlike the Cowboys, at least the Spurs win. But just like with Jerry, it's still always the same ole sh!t. Here come the training camp names... the ones that give me my annual Spurs related migraine.

1 Parker/Cojo/Mills(Cotton aint bad, but why not Hanga or Denmon... or too bad De Colo got Mahinmi'd. why give this injury driven moment to anybody new, it's spoken for!)

    2 Green/Manu/Beli

3 Kawhi/NOBODY(LJC!? Sit behind make shift Anderson/Daye, corporate knowledge. Play a little, or not. "trust the best fo, he ain't ready" we need more training camp bigs?)

4 Diaw/Anderson/Daye(Daye can be your new Bonner, Bertans can be your new Bonner... let Bonner go!!! Ayers/Bonner is the worst new Bonner)

5 Timmy/Tiago(why is there any doubt about Baynes and J Green, are they ing serious? J Green is Blair except taller, with better knees, and just as much heart... same, if not more-so, goes for Baynes)

what's worse about this is the spurs are clearly milking Kawhi for ringers. Kawhi oughta slap RC and Pop in the face, with a big kawhi back hand, and tell them "bring that French dude over, yesterday!"

Jean-Charles and Bertans are still recovering from injuries. While I would appreciate either or both being over, they are fine staying there for another year. The other overseas prospects are hot garbage for now. None deserve a shot over any current Spurs or Cotton.

Bonner is one of the best shooters in the the league. Daye has a long way to go before he can replace him. I was in favor of moving on from Matty, but no way he wouldn't beat out Daye in camp on a level ground.

JaMychal (or however you spell it) Green sucks. He sucked in summer league. I have no idea why people didn't see that. Comparing him to Blair is insulting to DeJuan (who has quite a few NBA-caliber skills and not just "heart").

No one's riding Kawhi to anything.

Cotton plays a position of need and is under team control for three years. Makes him a much better prospect than the UFA SL members. He was just straight-up better than Denmon, who let me down big time.

i liked Cotton, i just don't think pg is as big of a position of need as it seems. Cojo and Beli can handle it just fine. If the Spurs want a disposable fill in, they might as well give Denmon the job.
