Better on our team or the thunder or mavs
A guy who averages 10 points in the finals on 40% shooting from three is not necessarily washed up (and just south of that for the whole playoffs / regular season). Think about what he can do on a team where he's surrounded by four other competent players plus great ball movement, as opposed to one where he's got at least one or two replacement-level players around him.
I do worry on the ball handling front with both Patty and Manu out (let's see what CoJo can do in extended time). Ideally, they'd be able to jettison both Daye and Ayres and make room for both and a big. But front office must see something in Daye to give him a shot.
Allen's defense is subpar but at least he's not a Harden.
Better on our team or the thunder or mavs
Ray is pretty old I don't think he has anything left. This guy will be a worse than what Finley was with the Spurs during his last few years here.
Conflicted about this. Ray Allen is still serviceable and can fit well in Pop's system. He's good insurance if any of the wing players ever go down. He's also clutch whether Spurs fans like it or not. Putting him on the Spurs also keeps him away from OKC, Clippers, and the Cavs.
On the other had, he's pretty damn old and who knows how much he will drop off next year. But he's a seasoned vet and probably won't complain much if he's buried at the end of the bench due to a big drop off. Low risk and a decent reward.
Never thought I'd see Michael Finley or Nick Van Exel in a Spurs uni and it happened. Personally though, Ray Allen.
He'd basically take Belinelli's spot which would be a shame because Marco was good for us in the regular season last year, but with Manu and Mills nursing injuries he could be useful to spot minutes for other guys.
I can't even imagine this happening. Probably just using us as leverage
For those who think this is a good idea...
Ray Allen robbed us of a le.
And he was a every time he was guarded by Bowen.
off, Allen. Go chase a ring in Cleveland.
And this comes from someone who HATED Horry when he came, but at least he had something left in the tank.
Declining shooter, only useful as a spot-up shooter nowadays, one of the 5 worst wing defenders in the league, 38 years old, etc..
He's just a name, tbh..
Uh, this guy begs to differ:
![]()
he's pointless, we have enough guards that can shoot. pop could also be a total got and play him in big minutes over green in late game spots
Doubt it happens. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but I don't see why he would come here over Cleveland anyways.
At the season opener, Ray Allen looks on as the Spurs receive their rings and retire Bruce Bowen's jersey - again. Popovich cut Allen from the team moments later.
There would be nothing more satisfying than having Ray Allen hit a series clinching buzzer beater for us to beat Cleveland in the finals next year
This is just wrong.
Smoke screen for the Wiggins to Spurs monster trade coming tbh.![]()
The only difference between Belinelli(a player that many Spurs fans disliked last year) and current Ray Allen is their name and previous career accomplishments, tbh..
Good stuff on Allen's potential role on the Spurs.

this would be a waste of a signing given our roster
he's actually one of my favorite players of this generation, and i would have welcomed him here anytime... but we dont need a catch and shoot specialist at that position

Can't help but think a Ray Allen signing would mean a Marco B. trade for a more serviceable, and bigger SF/PF to play backup.
Ginobili redeemed himself.
Patty is gonna miss half the season, so Manu will most likely play the back up point and Marco could be the backup SF just like now. I don't see a problem with Ray Allen on this team. He would get a lot of open shots.
since Joseph will be a free agent I'd rather hand him minutes as an audition than bring ray allen aboard.
None of Manu, Allen or Beli can defend PGs. Joseph will get that spot. Ginobili will handle the ball, but he's still going to play two-guard.
