This is a paraphrase but Pop when asked if Messina will bring any tweaks to how the Spurs do things
"He already has. In our preparation for this season, he's seen we do this and we do that, and he'll say 'Well have you tried doing this?'. I already like some of the suggestions he's made. I've taken out of bounds plays from you (the reporter), why wouldn't I listen to him?"

The media brought up Pop's quote about wanting him to be consistent, and Kawhi responded by saying it's up to Pop to get him involved in the offense and that playing more minutes would be helpful in terms of him being more consistent. He also brought up the "getting more minutes" thing 2 other times during the interview. Definitely sounds like he'd like to play more than what he did last year.
He also said that part of the reason he did what he did in the Finals is because he was actually playing 35+ minutes.
this offense made him an NBA champion and Finals MVP. I think he's fine.
No surprise he wasn't in happy spirits to be talking to the media.

Kyle looks like he slim down quite a bit and Kawhi had bulked up.
Man, don't like Pop growing the beard.
I didn't notice the weight loss. Maybe reading too much into it, but some had speculated that he should bulk up to play the 4, as he was too slow to play 1, 2, or 3. Maybe his early strength and conditioning (as his father was quoted after the draft, they went straight to the gym), indicates that maybe The Spurs suggested to him to go leaner, lighter, and quicker, not bulkier. Would be nice to see him get to play smaller.
Currently the Spurs have enough big men rotation for 4 and 5.
With Patty down and Manu still reportedly "work in process", the wing and point guard positions are quite insufficient with only Tony, Kawhi, Danny, Beli and Cory. So I think it makes more sense to put Kyle on the 1,2 or 3.
If he's been focusing on his strength and conditioning it's only natural that he would get leaner before he starts to add any type of bulk. I don't think anyone is advising him to get fat. Well maybe Boris.
Absolutely, if he can do it. A team need.
Kyle did have very high body fat, as reported at the combine, I guess it was. So losing that's a first step. Like I said, reading too much into it, I'm sure, at 3 months after draft day or something. But, still a few days until we get games. Gotta talk about something. Might as well be his BMI. But, yeah, he needs to stay away from dinners with Boris. Boundaries.
I count 19 players. I wonder if the team is going to add someone for that final spot.
As I said back in the summer league, it seems the Spurs are willing to give Anderson a chance to play as a wing, or even a guard. I just hope they feel like Anderson losing weight will help him stay there. If not, this could be a wasted year for him.
Funnily enough, I think he may see a decent amount of time as a ball-handler. Looking at that roster, there aren't many healthy PGs, especially since Cotton is more in the Mills mold. Whenever that scrimmage happens, it'll be interesting to see where Kyle plays.
Yeah, I was leaning towards the Spurs using Anderson more as the third PG when he's not putting in time on the Toros.
He and Cotton starting in the Toros backcourt would be the homeless man's version of 2014 Ginobili and Mills.
I agree with this, I think we'll see them experiment with him at PG on the offensive side.
Yeah, I suggested in a previous thread that Kyle may end up being the player tasked with filling Ginobili's role next year. Wouldn't surprise me at all for him to spend this year trying to become an NBA two-guard. There are worst ways a player can develop than being a 6-9 version of Andre Miller.
Yes. That conversation is coming to the fore, now. Bringing everyone back does make that guard position for the first half of the season our most interesting drama, I think.
Maybe Franklin? That would make the most sense. Another handler and a fourth defender to stash in Austin.
And, FWIW, I hope Cotton has a better training camp than Summer League. Small Sample granted, but I didn't fall in love with him. I watch every guard we're associated with in hopes there's a better option if it comes to needing one. Who else is out there? Or, do you like Cotton.
