I don't necessarily understand how rubbing the football can cause a pressure decrease, but does anyone honestly think Belichick would go on TV and essentially say, " you, prove it" to the NFL without consulting professionals first? He's historically been as cautious as possible with the media and never denied anything he actually did, even in the case of Spygate.
Well Bill was saying the friction from rubbing the footballs caused an artificial increase in PSI. They would then make sure the balls were at 12.5 PSI in that state, or deliver to the refs and request they put the balls at 12.5 (plausible as Rodgers said the refs like to put balls closer to the low end of the spectrum). After the check, the balls PSI naturally lowers as it cools down from the rubbing. Then once they're out in the cold, wet weather, they drop even more. Whether the Patriots did all of this intentionally (likely) or unintentionally (unlikely), the science is accurate, and technically they did nothing against league rules.

I'm still confused as to how the Colts balls were 100% fine but the Pats balls weren't
My theory is that the refs simply ed up and never adequately inflated the balls pregame. It's clear from what Belichick said that New England makes no effort to inflate the balls properly before the game and just tells the refs to inflate them to 12.5 (all of which is within the rules), so if the refs don't inflate them then the balls are already under-inflated at room temperature and once they were outside dipped to a full 1-2 PSI below the minimum.

And if the Colts knew a sting/ball check was coming, they'd likely inflate the balls to the upper limit in the hopes of negating any natural deflation, and keep them in regulation.

On a side note, "Ballghazi" is a much better name for this than "DeflateGate"

Rubbing them won't get the temperature up that high.

Let me give it a shot....

Any team looking to gain an unfair advantage outside the rules is in the wrong.

    How'd I do, yep....you're wrong as usual.

The bottom line is it's a stupid rule, let the QB use whatever air pressure he prefers. Not unlike using a different ball to kick.

    Damn you're dumb, wow!

My point dummy is air pressure doesn't win/lose football games.....ok? Yes it's wrong to twek the NFL rules. Regardless of how stupid the rule might be.

that is the only thing at issue here. was a rule broken, and was it done intentionally? you stopping into this thread every few hours to say "air pressure doesn't win games, hahahahahahaha" just shows you are missing the point entirely

You're into a team that's had how many head coachs in the last 20 years, how many QB's? Do we ever see a stable coach/QB combo with the Raiders?

Dude, cool trying to correct me, you always come off looking stupid, ok?

I'm saying when you make it very obvious you have some need to play critic, how could you follow a team as messed up as the Raiders are? A real strong case can be made they have been the worst team in the league for a decade.

Physics professors have said otherwise. Man, you oughta be teaching at ing MIT if you're so much smarter than them.
