He's going to have find a way to reinvent himself this summer. He will have to work really hard to become a great jump shooter because that is the only thing that will keep his career going from this point forward.
Tony Parker Wants to Play 20 Years for the San Antonio Spurs

With the recent announcement of the two-year contract extension that will take (Kobe) Bryant to a 20th season with the Lakers, Parker has envisioned a similar run. ‘Why not?’ Parker said before the Spurs departed Oklahoma City for Friday’s game against the Magic at the Amway Center in Orlando. ‘The way I play, I think I can definitely play that long. When I see (Lakers point guard) Steve Nash being an All-Star at 38, I feel like I’ve got the same kind of game,’ he said. ‘Neither one of us jumps that much. We’re sort of like the kings of layups and great pick-and-roll players, so I can see myself playing that long, too.’

Agreed that was insane for him to think he was like Nash when it comes to longevity. Nash had two things Tony doesn't have which is great shooting and great court vision. I think the first one can be learned but unfortunately second one can't be learned.

I'd be in favor of trading him just to get away from his contract, tbh. We better not start getting soft and keep players on bad contracts cause they've always been "team guys." That's how franchises start declining.

Problem is, who's dumb enough to take on his contract?

Wouldn't be the first time that the Spurs offloaded someone to Detroit..

Parker isn't dead yet and I haven't given up on him! He's settling for more and more jumpers but he has shown the ability to break down defense the last couple of games with his penetration to the rim. The results just aren't there.. He could have easily had double figures in assists tonight and eventhough his shot wasn't falling, it had nothing to do with the Clippers defense. He was in no way, shape or form the reason the Spurs lost tonight's game. I can point to any number of players that played like total . It's way to early to be making those kinds of drastic moves. If Pop does anything, he'd replace Parker with Cojo before he would Ginobili. Afterall, these are just "meaningless" regular season games. Players are "coasting" and still trying to work out the kinks.
I haven't given up on him either, and I'm not talking about just this game. But it's undeniable that if his jumper isn't falling, his offense looks like a train wreck this season. This is a guy we depend on 20pts or so every night, because he's young, should have the legs and talent, but it's not happening for him. Maybe try to get him going and in rhythm for a couple of games off the bench, see if he regains his confidence and gives the team a boost. These are generally meaningless regular season games, which is the reason you want use them to do some experiments like that. I wouldn't want Pop to wait until the playoffs to try something like it.

He said he would play for France this summer, I wonder if that's on hold now?

I love TP but he is playing like and he just can't seem to turn it around. Missed so many shots he typically used to make.

Not sure why anyone is even suggesting the possibility of trading Parker...there's a 0% chance that it will happen. He's earned the benefit of the doubt with the spurs org by taking cheaper contracts throughout his career and never bolting for bigger markets. It's ride or die with TP. He's not playing well right now, but he's a spur for life tbh.

imo, he should be shut down for a few weeks. Maybe the remainder of the RRT. Let the hamstring recover more fully.
What the would they trade him for anyways? What equal value would they get for Tony honestly? They would get less back and be a worse team overall, that would be a stupid trade and I agree with you. People act like we have a starting PG on the team and his value is sky high to trade, they are delusional in here. He is a Spur for life, they made sure of that.

Addition by subtraction, maybe? Trade Parker for a bunch of expirings? Getting rid of Parker and his contract means we could honestly afford to keep Green, sign Kawhi to the max, AND go after another max player next year right? I doubt CoJo would demand too much money so we could probably re-sign him for a modest contract and boom, we're back in business. This is all depends on whether or not the Spurs pull the trigger on a Parker trade though.

Addition by subtraction? You think Mills or Corey will start on a playoff team? Who will trade him for expirings? This is the thanks you give a guy who played on 4 le teams and wants to be a Spur for life? Just trade him now? I like the other idea of going for another max player after those two but if Tim and Manu retire they still can right? If one retires they might even be able to. I want both back but they are going to retire sometime soon. Co Jo is not a starting PG IMO, he is decent but a backup honestly. Spurs will not be trading Parker man, that is far fetched and seriously you think they would even consider it?

Yes, he is a Spur for life whether some like it or not. They won't just trade a guy who has given alot to this team for 4 le runs, some hate on him but he has been a big part of the team whether he dissapeared at times etc. He has been huge for the Spurs.

They need to sweeten the pot. Maybe they can package Parker, Splitter and a 1st in a deal with Detroit for Drummond and build for the future. They won't win a le with CoJo or Mills running the point this year or any year but, they'll at least have some building blocks in place. Get a solid pg in the offseason so Mills/Cojo can return to the bench and they might have a decent shot.

We can't start hanging on to players past their prime on bad contracts, just look at how that is destroying the ing lakers!

I don't see why CoJo and Patty can't be our PGs in the playoffs, tbh. They're better than current-Parker, so what's the argument? CoJo got us over the ing hump last year in game 6 of the WCF and Patty was tearing s up in the finals. Really, tell me how current-Parker is better than either of those guys?
