Manu was a great "role player" that year yes. But he was in his prime. He was getting used to the league and the spurs, it was his first year I believe? oh and also I think he was recovering from a bad ankle injury which happened in the worlds championship. but he was in his prime.
He was not in his NBA prime, age wise and bball wise maybe since he played for years but as far as the NBA goes his prime was really 05 and a few years after that, he was at his best then and what I would call his "Prime". He did have that bad ankle yes, he was coming back from that at the Worlds. 03 Manu was even col! He hit some big shots those playoffs in the 4th Q's and FT's along with Jackson to hold down the fort. I remember their barrage of threes at the end of game 6's, either one of them would step up and just start nailing them at key times. Clutch as .

He was 23 then. Primes generally are considered to be in the late twenties. His prime would have been probably 2008-2010 but his best years were probably 2010-2011 & 2011-2012.

Not really that hard to understand. Bench tony and we're basically putting up numbers that only trail the warriors. We don't need tony at all. Didn't need him last year either. I.e game 5 against Portland, game 6 okc, game 5 MIA.
Best case is to limit his minutes to 28-30. Pop isn't benching him.

Tony Parker is back to give the Spurs some direction (not particularly leadership in scoring or defense)....towards that goal...REPEAT!.

Thank you for waking him up from suckingdom.

On one hand, it's obvious that Parker needs to play well for the Spurs to reach their peak. On the other, people who think Parker's resurgence proves his worth are misunderstand. The Spurs were playing poorly because Parker was playing poorly. They would have won more if Tony had sat those games.

Ya, that's a pretty stupid point..

Naturally, if the highest-usage player on the team is playing at D-league level, the team is going to struggle..

Anyways, I like the way Parker has been playing lately, he's just playing his role and the team is moving the ball well..

Backups are pretty bad right now. If all the PGs ever play up to their potential at the same time, it should be impressive.

Parker doesn't need to regain his level, he just needs to not be a negative impact. Pass pass pass. Parker hurts this team when he takes too many shots.

Hes a key role player. Barry was right in the sense that the team is much better when he plays like one instead of a bottom 5 player in the league.

That had more to do with Kawhi's absence. The Spurs have always been able to stay afloat without just Rique...going all the way back to the GHill days.

Again, Parker is playing well in his role lately, I don't have a problem with him being a role player scorer, he's doing it at a high level..

Mills and Joseph look terrible, though, which is a bigger concern..seems like Patty can't play without being afraid that he'll get pulled..

Last 11 games: 19.6 PPG on 55% shooting...very high "role player" scoring.

    1. I meant his "role" is to just score, at this point, and occasionally drive and kick..not "he scores like a role player", obviously, you idiot
    2. He's averaging only 8 FGAs per game in the past 3 Spurs wins, which is what I meant by "lately"

He's good in this role, where the ball moves, and he isn't asked to do too much, even with Manu out..

My only concern is that it took him 4 months as one of the worst players in the league just to reach the level he's at right now..hopefully he doesn't become ineffective in the playoffs like last year..
