I (along with some friends) dispelled the myth you were spewing; the rest of my talk here was largely conversation with those friends about how asinine your argument is.

Unlike you, I don't hang on to ridiculously untenable positions and then claim that everyone else is ignoring history. That distinction between us would seem to immediately and unequivocally mark one of us a fool.

But I'll give you this: toying with fools like you is among the virtues of the internet.

    Good day.
Dude just cuz you are blind to the facts homer, doesnt make my arguement "untenable". There are many experts in the league that had the balls to speak out loud about it at the time.

Not too many players only play 6 games one season then play every game the following season if they have a true injury. I am not saying it was David, if management is telling him to take the rest of the season off "to make sure you are 100%" what is he gonna do. After all he is the employee. If you want to ignore the facts that is fine, go ahead I would expect nothing less from a homer. NEXT!

Half th team was injured. How is that "cheating the system"?

    OMG it's me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude READ...My point is David had plenty of time to come back. He went out what the 6th game of the season for a "bad back". They kept him out knowing it would give them a better chance at a #1 pick or a pick high enough to trade up to #1.

The lottery was designed to give weak teams a chance to compete, not a team that has finished first in their division the last 6 or so seasons the opportunity to hold their stars out for a higher pick.

    Oh the excuses.

But for the sake of replying to your argument, we aren't the first team in history to hold out a star half way through the season when it's obvious the team won't make the playoffs even if they return. Why risk making the injury worse?

I should know by now -- David Robinson's broken foot never really happened, it was a figment of San Antonio's imagination, and even if it was real, most NBA players would have come back within like a week of suffering that kind of an injury. Sean Elliott was perfectly healthy through all of 1996-97 and 1997-98, he just wasn't good enough to be on the playoff roster in 1998. Chuck Person really could have played, but just didn't, because it furthered the Spurs efforts to finish with the 4th worst record in basketball.

Blind to the facts, indeed: the facts should never get in the way of a good old sour grapes conspiracy.

Tanking a season doesn't mean you get the first pick.

It's still a "lottery". Finishing 4th worst, the odds you win the Lottery are pretty slim.

I'm done after this, but the facts are the facts:

David went out in Game 24 of that season and he didn't sit out the rest of the season with a bad back, he sat out the rest of the season with a broken foot. Are you telling me that never happened?

They kept him out because it was more important to ensure that his foot was healthy than to run him back out to resuscitate a lost cause. I guess all of you conspiracy types wouldn't have ever noticed this if David Robinson had turned himself into Zydrunas Ilgauskas or Rik Smits by rushing back to play on a foot that hadn't completely healed.

The 1996-97 Spurs, without David Robinson and without Sean Elliott (both All-Stars in 1995-96 and both seriously injured for most of the 1996-97 season) weren't remotely good enough to compete in the West with Vinny Del Negro, Will Perdue, Greg Anderson, and Vernon Maxwell as major contributors.

After HUAC and I have completely investigated this thread we have come to the conclusion that Amare Owns Duncan is in fact a communist. We came to this conclusion thusly:

    1) Communism is based on the idea that everyone should get an equal amount of everything. AOD, upon discovering that he was full of and stupidity, felt the need to see to it that those of us here received some it as well. However, a simple use of the search function with the phrase "Mavs will win championship" would show that there really isn't a lack of deluded souls around here.

    2) In communist countries such as the USSR and Cuba the government holds an absolute control on the written word, and thus can rewrite history. AOD clearly is used to using this technique to try to make his point, as well as to try to convince people that he is not a bag. Sadly he has become so entrenched in this mindset that he believes that simply because he writes something it makes it so. Poor AOD .

    3) Commies will cling to their useless and ineffective ideas even in the face of overwhelming evidence of failure. His mindless contention that the Spurs "tanked" a season has been proven wrong time and time again, and yet he persists. Russia eventually caught on, so at this time we conclude that AOD is dumber than the average commie.

    4) Commies spend to much time looking up gay porn on the internet that they can't be bothered to actually come up with good ideas in forums. We don't know this for a fact about most communists, but we're pretty sure it's the case with AOD, so we feel confident that it applies to all.

If someone can please deport this pinko you would have the Senate's deepest thanks.

Actually 3rd worse, that easily top the three. An easy backup plan is swap David "cant get it done on my own" Robinson and a high pick for Duncan.

The point is, the Spurs didn't tank the season to get Duncan.

Intentionally tanking a season only gives you a CHANCE of getting duncan, with the 3rd worse record most people expected the Celtics to get the #1 pick, not he spurs.

I've realized you're not really here to stimulate any thought. Just to stir . So this will be my last reply. Take care.

Sorry I forgot you bandwagon fans don’t know any basketball history. See the year Duncan graduated the Spurs tanked the season so they could have a chance at the #1 pick. I should charge you guys for this basketball education. Just think you could amaze all your bandwagon friends.
The Spurs has FIVE of their top nine players go under the knife PLUS their top player DRob was in traction for several weeks and in then in a cast for several more weeks from two injuries only a fool would try to dispute.

I will give you the Spurs wisely did not return Drob to the court for the last two weeks as they had no shot at the playoffs. But that is hardly tanking.

Talk of Spurs tanking in 1997 only comes from bitter fools and idiots. Two remarks you clearly resemble.
