Why is government involved in the first place?

    I can't think of a good reason.

    Different verbiage?
Sure, in some cases. Why get government involved in marriage in the first place?

Well, he might be giving the wrong impression to a lot of men riding around on his scooter.

Hopefully he doesn't end up like poor Lester.
As we both thought though, I'd guess he's more similar to Colonel Fitts.

From an evolutionary point of view, this is probably the beginning of the end for sexuality - assuming it is a genetically inherited trait (likely), and not a recurrent mutation (highly unlikely).

It would be a fascinating thing to observe over the next couple millennia.
    How do you figure

But living without being forced to pay a tax isn't apparently. That's why they keep approving Obamacare.

So you have a god given fundamental right to marry whoever you want but no fundamental right to simply exist without paying a tax. Gotcha.

    Real consistent there SCOTUS.
There is a fundamental right to marry that has been recognized expressly under our Cons ution for more than 50 years (and, arguably was implicitly recognized long before that) and today the Court upheld the idea that if we recognize a fundamental right to marry, we don't get to let voters decide whether to arbitrarily deny that right to particular individuals without a compelling justification.

There is no fundamental right "to simply exist without paying a tax," -- the Cons ution now expressly authorizes Congress to levy income taxes; we've agreed that there is no right "not to be taxed." So if you don't like a particular tax (or, more specifically, a particular aspect of the manner in which income is taxed by Congress), you can grow a coalition and urge that the issue be put to a vote.

The points are not inconsistent, even if you hate one or the other (or both) of them.

Would be easier just to get government out of the marriage business altogether.
I can't believe I'm agreeing with Chump on something. Privatize marriage and keep the state out of it. This idea that the government needs to regulate and dictate every aspect of our lives is re ed.

if it was genetically inherited, it would have died naturally in all species a long time ago

This ruling may help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in the gay-male community and society at large. Now that gay men can marry, they might not have as many partners.
