That is the saddest part in all this.... TD isn't able to mentor anyone when he leaves!!

    I disagree.

I think it's fear of failure.

If you come to the Spurs and it doesn't work out, what can you say?

You can't say it's a clueless organization and they'll never win.

The Spurs are a unique outfit -- if you fail, it's on you.

Why would you go for that when you could go, for example, to Phoenix?
    Very good point as well.

Another theory, I think that in our meeting with LMA, Duncan talked about how in 2000, Orlando bent over backwards to cater to him, and gave him free gifts and stuff. That's why he dragged it out and recommended to LMA that if he is committed to the Spurs, he should do the same thing and enjoy the experience of being courted. Tbh, I'm wondering what each of the suitors is giving him.

Houston - Probably that hilarious shot chart showing how LMA almost took as many mid range shots last season as the entire Rockets team combined. In the geriatric duo of starting pg's in Terry and Prigs, no need to worry about another Lillard fiasco.

New York - Some "I heart NY" shirts, an opportunity to play center alongside Milicic 2.0 and assist master Melo. Not to mention stars across the board in Galloway, Shved, and I don't know the rest of their roster, but it's New York, so they have to be good, right? Concrete jungles where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do, except win.

Toronto - Maple syrup. Chance to play in the East. Canadia. Drake. Maybe lose to Washington in 5 instead of 4 in the first round.

Miami - Chance to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and win multiple championships. Not 1, not 2, not 3... Cuban cigars and hookers. Be the first player in NBA history to earn a max contract and come off the bench.

Los Angeles - Swaggy P. Nuff said. Probably a quickie with Jeanie. Doesn't have to play center due to the dynamic duo of Hill and Sacre. Chance to impede Randle's development. Even though reports say he's sold his house in LA, he can always build a new one with Kobe's bricks.

Dallas - Cowboys jerseys. Chance to laugh watching Dirk struggle to play center. Sit out in crunch time, no pressure.

Phoenix - Your only chance to be listed and play as a point guard, furthest position from *gasp* center.

    San Antonio - Whataburger #boldchickenstrips

Judging by how things have been going, I'm expecting a "Heat are now considered right up at the top of Aldridge's list with Phoenix and San Antonio. Pat Riley was very impressive at dinner, and the food was top notch according to sources." tweet within the next few hours.

Gotta admit, it's the most entertaining SpursTalk has been in quite a while.
And what's more...we are all completely united. There's some "Manu should retire" and "Porker" going on because of course, but in general, all eyes and thoughts are on one subject in unison and all in agreement that if LA signs with us, then he's a Spur, but if not, then we all hate that guy as one body.

It's kinda glorious, in a way.

I absolutely love this . The draft, this, summer league. Get to see you guys and argue about things and have a good time. We get to exchange jabs with the Lakers fans and the Mavs fans. It's what sports fandom is about. And all of it is better than ing baseball.
Agreed. And just about every game is better than baseball.

The way so many media outlets have been apoplectic today about the inability of LAL and NYK to attract significant players these past 2 off seasons, a conspiratorialist might think that someone has told LMA and his team that they have to give LAL another chance, if only to allow LAL to regain some public credibility.

The Miami thing makes absolutely no sense to me.
I'd bet on that..exactly what I was thinking re: Lakers

nothing has changed except LA looking to hear something he hasn't heard before about basketball.
Maybe Pop should've talked to him like a child and said: "You see this ring? You get it by winning 16 games in the playoffs. 4 games in the 1st round, 4 games in the 2nd round, 4 games in the 3rd round...

    LMA: Wait a minute, there's a 3rd round?! Holy !

Pop: Yes, and after that, you get to go to the Finals to play against a fully store-bought Lebron team that we've handled before.

LMA: WOW....oh boy!!!! Gosh, so that means I can get one of those shiny rings myself?

Pop: Sure you can...but you will have to play Center from time to time.

LMA: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I want my momie!!!!

TD: Shut the up, pussy. I'm 39 and I can handle Center.

LMA: Gee, thanks TD, you're my hero!

With Wade signing his $20 million deal, doesn't that knock Miami out of the running? That would put their salary to the $76 million mark and thus, over the cap?

Bottom line is if he is smart and tough he will come to the Spurs. If he choses another team he likely would not have been able to handle being a Spur under Pop.
The other selling point is that his minutes will be reduced will obviously help him for the future.

Like how Kawhi is "signed" for 90 milly and Verde "signed" for 45 milly and they can still afford a max?

With the lack at depth at the 4 and 5 for us, that might not actually be the case. He may even play more minutes, especially when Pop sits TD from time to time.
